If I said half of the country were sniveling cowards, would you think I was talking about you?

If I said half of your political Party was deplorable, would you think I was talking about you?

Why would someone put themselves in the half that are deplorable and not the half that are not?

Could it be that they are guilty as charged?

with an elderly surveyor. he made a joke that he was in that category - although he couldn't remember the word until I prompted him. over not liking a roundabout design. who fucking cares?

they all take it personally because it validates their beliefs that they are the righteous, beset by the horrible liberals.

certainly they've been indoctrinated for decades by hate radio.

this was out in the dry middle of WA state, so there's a lot of "rugged-individualists being held back by the wet-side nanny-state regulators" horseshit mixed in as well. bundy-style libertarianism, subsidized by the urban tax base and facilitated by immigrant labor.

Can I agree without adding anything to the discussion?

Although I did notice that Deplorables seem to dismiss all talk of racism, believing it is the "liberal" go-to response to any discussion.

And they hate Hillary so much that they wear her derision as a badge of honor, ie., if Hillary thinks I'm bad, that just proves how good I am.

My identity is my own responsibility, just as my actions and words are.

You can say whatever you want about Americans, Artists, Californians, Cat staff, Democrats, Disabled People, Fat People, Gardeners, Historians, Hyundai Owners, Liberals, Mobile Home Trailer Park residents, Musicians, Navy Chiefs, Nerds, Pagans, Old People, Re-enactors, Soccer Players, Scandihoovians, or Women - I won't think you're talking about me unless you're directing those comments about me.

And then I could say to myself - "why would that person direct that sort of comment to me?"
Either:
I've done or said something incorrectly, which I can then (hopefully) correct, or
the speaker has mis-attributed something to me, in which they've made a mistake and wouldn't have put me in that generalization if they knew better, or
the speaker is a short-witted tool who is either seeking some sort of emotional gratification or advantage by painting with a broad brush.

The world is much bigger than I am. Why should I think that I'm the center of it, and everything said or done revolves around me?

Haele
