Went there to check it out -
Those people are NUTS!
There are all kinds of people there, and they just think they can get away with saying
ANYTHING THEY WANT!!!
How crazy is THAT!?!

(65,616 posts)Half of them were openly rooting for HRC to have some kind of terminal illness. You could almost hear the disappointment when it was discovered she had pneumonia.
You want to see what a Trump supporter is like, go over to DI and read some of their threads...total sickness.
warrprayer
(4,734 posts)And there are lots of Trump signs, but no Hillary signs at all.
I attribute this to those who live out here realizing that some Trump supporters are stupid and vicious enough to retaliate for the Hillary signs by destroying property or worse.
It doesn't mean there is no Hillary support out here.

(2,899 posts)I had to spend the next three days heavily medicated. I cant believe they do that AND they say whatever they want!!!
Just thinking about it triggers me fucking stupid.

(101,306 posts)so it seems pointless you trolling DU like this, Jardinier.
Here's the proof:
Cruz didn't support Trump and for Democrats such as myself and my family/friends who support Trump
THIS IS A GOOD THING! We don't like Lyin' Ted.
Fuck Ted and Hillary.

26. DU, like the left, is full of filthy racists.
They want to keep the black man on their plantation. They don't see the black man as a free thinking, intelligent human-being. They see him as their slave still, to be totally controlled and told what to do and what to think.
They are filthy racists. I hate them.

18. I have posted much worse things and never been banned.
I do have three posts hidden right now, which is a record for me. Two were hidden for being very rude to 'Remain posters after the Brexit passed. What can I say, I was drunk with British glory. I had a OP hidden for being full of RW talking points, which it was. Posting a link to Info Wars went too far for them, among other things, lol.
The judge hasn't put on his black cap for me yet because Im a star poster and been there since 2001. I was one of the people who saw Skinner and Co standing there with their banner. I cant go there very often because its bad for my health.

(23,926 posts)DI is host to a couple of reasonably principled conservatives, and a host of some of the dumbest mother-fuckers you will ever encounter on the internet. I mean, we're talking dipshits who make even Jim Hoft appear erudite. (I would name a few names, but even recognizing the goofy and desperate little assholes seems to validate their existence; and at that point, they tend to cackle, yell "MOM, MEAT LOAF", and continue on their merry way. I think their mommies need a break, so fuck 'em.)

(24,461 posts)You cannot sneeze in a Discussionist thread without hitting hilarious defenses of failed and discredited 1%er friendly policies, deflection, projection, victim-blaming, victim-denying, logical fallacies, red-baiting, revisionist history, blatant sexism, blatant racism and insufferable assholery.
That site's an exhibit of The Balance Fallacy, which assumes that both sides of an argument have equal value regardless of merit. Sometimes, stupid is just stupid, yo.

(4,734 posts)Wasn't that why Bill Clinton let the FCC eliminate the equal time rule?
He did later say he screwed up as it opened the door for Faux news.
I don't follow that rule. If I think someone is totally full of it, I tell them so.
Shrike47
(6,913 posts)I can't see that either had anything to do with Bill Clinton.
And the exceptions to the equal time rule are ridiculous in the time of Trump.

(80,708 posts)I'm just saying for me, it lost what 'fun' it had, quickly.
I have no desire to have the same arguments over and over with barely-sentient right wingers. It gets repetitive.

(1,788 posts)Fortunately, free speech includes the right to call out racists, misogynists, homophobes, and other hate-mongerers.
In our modern world, free speech is often celebrated as a right to leave civility behind, to express ourselves as rudely as we like; a feel-good rant, or a venting of rage.
Personally, I prefer free speech with a dressing of civility.
And, of course, DU is not a free speech zone. Two ends of the spectrum: a forum where almost anything goes, with the anonymity that releases the inhibitions of civility, and a forum where discussion is tightly regulated into allowed partisanship.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)free speech happens in caged zones to protect the public. It's a professional mud-slinging event.
Our dominant culture apparently can't find a way to speak their minds with civility, OR to hear something they disagree with without having a meltdown.
LWolf
(46,179 posts)way too real. Why do the masses allow this? Maybe the era of cellphone cameras will help keep it above ground and visible; no deniability.
warrprayer
(4,734 posts)In Selma, Alabama, to commemerate attacks on civil rights marchers in the mid 1960's.
For progress to be made in civil rights, laws made by oppressors to keep black people from demonstrating in public had to be broken.
If those black people had allowed themselves to be penned in "free speech zones", their message would never have been heard.
And yes, I agree the cellphone camera has done much to bring abuses to the attention of the public.
