Are family and friends willing to vote for tRump.
You knew they leaned rightwing but didn't think they'd go so far as to support a bigoted, sexist, racist, xenophobic ego maniac and reality TV con man.
It has damaged my relationships but I guess the bitter truth is best known rather than hidden.

(33,232 posts)But I live in a low-crime, multi-cultural west coast city, and I count myself lucky. I'm very distant from Tulsa, Ferguson, Baltimore.
I know from my upbringing that there are deep-seated pockets of ignorance and fear. White America knows it's hegemony is over, even if they don't know what that word means. Hence the reactionary xenophobia.
This is their last stand.
I hope.

(15,220 posts)One of my oldest and dearest friends just posted something on Facebook that made me want to vomit, particularly knowing her particular situation. She has a husband with a terminal illness and how she can believe that Trump, if elected, would do anything to better that situation, is beyond me.
I haven't said anything at this point. But I can tell you that because of my own passionate feelings about what is actually at stake in this election, something has changed within ME as to how I view HER.

(16,834 posts)that doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things. Sure, we all want Hillary to win and most of us can't stand Donald Trump, but stupid politics are not grounds to end a 50 year friendship. No matter how invested we might be in these elections, the chances are very low that the world will end regardless of who wins.
Trust me, you can keep your friendship and leave stupid politics out of it. I've been doing that with friends and family members since I was old enough to understand what politics were, and there's no reason why you can't do it too. If you have to, apologize. Don't throw away a lifelong relationship over Trump and Hillary.

(39,343 posts)But now I'm convinced that from 1995- present they lost their minds. I blame religion for pushing cognitive dissonance and rewarding gleeful ignorance with bullshit promises of gold mansions in the sky. They've also been fed a steady diet of Fear and Loathing (thanks HST) and are either scared of boogie men or hate anything that looks different.
They've been trained and allowed their brains to suffer atrophy to the extent that they're supporting this monster (who is not religious by the slightest measure).
The engineering of the dumbest electorate is nearly complete. To what extent we'll see in November.

(4,113 posts)saying, they disrespected the military, they're womanizers, they're flip-floppers, they're liars and on and on.
Then comes Trump, who has practiced these actions used to attack the Democrats to a level never seen before.
It actually reinforces what I've long believed - These people would support a Hitler/Mussolini presidential ticket if they ran as Republicans. And to give them the comfort to do this, they would listen closely to Faux Snooze and the RW talk shows for talking points on why they should support Hitler/Mussolini over anyone on the Democratic ticket.

(33,232 posts)they're attacking Hillary with the same rhetoric - but putting the blame for Bill's womanizing on her. old dogs learning new tricks.

(2,955 posts)My wife - who used to be a camping, tomboy environmentalist, pro-animal, nature advocate has - over the last decade or so - become a ravenous right wing lunatic. The reason I don't know if she's voting Trump is because we talk ZERO politics any more. She's not religious, she does stipulate fully to global warming, and she is fully pro-choice. But, other than that, she's fallen off the right edge.
She even joined the NRA - even though we don't own guns (never have and probably never will) - claiming that she's always been in favor of gun rights. I know she just joined because the NRA is the biggest anti-Obama force out there that isn't the KKK. Guns have never been a factor in out life. They're an alien thing to the both of us. For her to suddenly join the NRA is as bizarre as it is random.
29 years of marriage, and we're as strained as we've ever been. This emerging right-wing extremism is destroying families and relationships. I have friends (Democrats and progressives) who have lost lifelong, childhood friends very recently due to vicious posts and attacks on Facebook. They feel betrayed.
That is awful.
Sorry to hear that.

(21,768 posts)While some have been "rock-ribbed Republicans" for decades, even they can't stand TrumpleThinSkin.
While they may or may not vote for Hillary, at least they aren't pulling the lever for him.

(23,058 posts)My boss is a repug through and through. I discovered this during Gore v Bush, so we never really talked about politics because I knew she wasn't trustworthy. Her son is also a repug operative who worked for Voldemort (Rick Scott) for 2 years in Tallahassee, that's how he was raised. Still, she's a VP and has a Masters degree, so I thought she wasn't stupid, just very misguided and entitled rich person. Now I find out she's supporting Drumpf. I just can't take it, how could this seemingly smart person be so stupid, so uncaring about voting for a true criminal and fraud? I'd really like to work until next Nov, to pay off my car before I retire, but I just HATE working for this awful woman. I'm now trying to figure out if I can pay enough in advance that the car is paid off by April so I can easily retire then.
