Every year on Sept. 21, the United Nations and people all around the world celebrate the International Day of Peace. For this Wednesday’s celebration, the UN will support the push toward world peace with the 2016 theme, “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.”
The UN inducted the peaceful holiday back in 1981, devoting the day to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”
There are plenty of ways to promote peace to recognize the global holiday. From meditation groups, peaceful marches, art exhibitions and educational conferences, many places around the globe are offering fun and inspiring ways to spread non-violence. There’s even a Peace Day Global Broadcast streaming online all day to give people a look at how others are celebrating throughout the world.
