Could this WA Post headline be any more sexist?

The first woman ever to receive this award didn't even deserve to be listed by name.

The headline: Tom Waits, his wife, John Prine receive songwriting awards

BOSTON — Luminaries from the film, music and writing worlds honored Tom Waits and folk singer John Prine for their songwriting at the Song Lyrics of Literary Excellence Awards on Monday. Waits’ wife, Kathleen Brennan, also was honored.

SNIP

McCann described Waits and Brennan as “patriots of elsewhere” who stay “close to the ground” and “hear things that no one else hears.”

SNIP

Waits reflected on working with Brennan, his longtime musical collaborator, who became the first woman to win the award since it was introduced in 2012.

It happens everywhere. I turned on the tv the other day to see what movie might be on (needed a work break), and the info blurb for "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" turns up. It lists as the stars: Howard Keel, Russ Tamblyn, and Tommy Rall. But on the screen is the co-lead of the picture, Jane Powell, singing her heart out. No mention of the female lead. Bupkus.

We women have come to expect this somewhat, but we shouldn't accept it.

And most papers just referred to her as Mick Jagger's girlfriend.
