(3,580 posts)Off the bat I'll say I voted for Hillary in 08 in my primary but always thought Obama would make a fine president. My only hesitation with him was his experience vs hers. When it was clear he was going to be nominated I was thrilled. And by the time I voted for him to be president I knew we nominated the right person. When i voted for him again in 12 I was even more enthused because I believe he's been a great president. I would vote for him again and again of I could.
awoke_in_2003
(34,582 posts)because he was the only one talking about the poor instead of pandering to the middle class like every other politician does. When he couldn't keep it in his pants, I went Biden. Like you, I liked Obama, but thought he needed more experience (boy, was I wrong). When I went to the polls in Nov 08, though, it was the first time I had ever been proud of my vote. Living in Texas my vote didnt really matter, but it felt good to be on the right side of history.

(12,265 posts)The amount of abuse they have taken is just awful. They are smart classy representatives of our country. Trump and his supporters are the underbelly of our country.

(1,383 posts)The rage. I am learning to control and funnel it. DU is a great forum for venting and sharing our experiences.
I have pretty much disowned MANY members of my family. Their support of the Orange Menace only seals it.
rurallib
(62,406 posts)Orange menace himself will not take a defeat lightly and he could be a real wild card over the next 4 years.
Hopefully his craziness may just help destroy what few parts of sanity remain in the R party.

(1,383 posts)will the gop (pronounced gop) stop being the "stupid" party? Apparently, they didn't achieve that goal after the 2012 ass whoopin'.
No matter the outcome of the election, I believe there are very dark times ahead. They literally want blood. So be it, I am their huckleberry.

(2,322 posts)...means he's opened himself to investigations up the wahzoo. A t.v. personality can get away with all his tricks, lies and con. But being in the public eye like this opens you up to all kinds of investigations. Journalistic and otherwise. Not only that, but he has literally made himself a historical figure--given how unique a candidate he is. People are going to delve, investigate, do documentaries...and it's really hard to hide all the laws you're breaking, all the scams, all the damage you've done if that many people are taking microscopes and looking closely.
And while it's really easy to intimidate and sue one journalist or person with a lawsuit, it's a bit harder to do so when hundreds are doing so.
There is a chance that Trump will be too busy trying to stay afloat himself to be that wild card. Even his faithful followers only have so much cash in pocket to float him while he tries to divert the sharks that will start to circle him. Because the republicans aren't going to forgive him for what he did to their party, especially not those who were in the primary with him.

(7,624 posts)I think he'll find himself in some real legal trouble provided he loses.
Heck he'll find himself in trouble no matter what happens. And he will lose.
President Obama planted the seeds of his destruction that night at the Corespondents Dinner and he took the bait like the sucker he is.

(81,192 posts)every chance I get. How I saw what they did and I know who and what they are. And the word "deplorable" doesn't even begin to define what they are.
I hope I get a chance to meet one or more of them so I can tell them how I feel directly to their miserable hypocritical criminal faces.
I'm NEVER going to forget. I'm making it a point not to.
I'm going to hold it against them as long as I draw breath, and say so whenever the opportunity presents itself. I'm gonna make sure my kids know what these miserable spiteful fuckers did, so THEY don't forget, either. As if they don't, already, from how much of my fuming about this shit they've been around to hear. Long ago, I told them - if you EVER feel you need to vote for the enemy, at least wait til after I'm dead. Voting CON is an unforgivable sin. It's the Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and Avada Kedavra all rolled into one.
I will fight these bastards and tell the truth about them and do everything I can to make their lives miserable til the day I die.

(31,381 posts)I have relatives who are Trump supporters and I've hidden their posts, too. I can't 'unfriend' them--husband's relatives--to keep my husband happy.
This morning I went to my friend's page to check up on what's she's been up to, and discovered a post where she was
proudly strutting about being a "deplorable". That did it for me. I unfriended her, her sister, and another mutual friend
who had 'liked' the fact she was proud of being among the deplorables.

I am proud that I voted for him in the primary, and both times in the general elections. In my mind I helped elect him as our President even though my state went for McCain and rMomey

(19 posts)I too will miss this wonderful man and his family who have been steadfast in the face of such a concerted effort to undermine everything he has tried to do to better this country. Their humor, grace, and dignity should be a shining example we all should strive for in our daily lives. I remember in an interview he gave in 2008, he mentioned an even temperament as a quality one should look for in our President. Boy did he ever set that example. Now we are faced with the unimaginable, a mentally unstable crook vying for the highest office in the land. Frightening and heartbreaking.

(3,275 posts)I will probably be around for another 50 years or so. Hopefully, we will have a lot of great people in power in my lifetime in the house, senate, governors office and the white house. I intend to work to make that happen. The democrats have high standards and we elect Obama. The Republicans have low standards and they elect people like Trump. I have hope for the future.
Also, I think that he will still continue to fight after he has left office. I don't see him, Michelle or Joe Biden retiring to sit around and play golf.

(10,122 posts)I'm very grateful for his almost two terms.
It's not often that one likes a politician as much or more at the end of their term compared with the start. But that's how I feel.
It's become a much more complicated job and I think he's as good as or better than any president in history. I could easily handle another either years of him - particularly compared with the choices this year.

My heart aches just thinking that in a few months he'll leave the White House. He truly is one of a kind as far as character, intelligence, commitment and reliability. I don't agree with everything he's done but I've never agreed on everything with any President, but I believe he's one of the very few great Presidents we've had.

This ungrateful, undeserving nation needs to wake the fuck up!
The man for the times...like Lincoln and FDR. Those of us that realize it is all that is left of sanity in this once proud nation. Today we are so disillusioned and divided; we hate our own shadow and fear the rain.
I lived through the best years...the 50's and 60's; and now this Presidency. I am truly blessed.
Let's see what HRC can do for an encore. I'm not going to hold my breath.

The man is not perfect- none of us are- but I believe he is fundamentally a good man and I strongly believe he has called upon all of us to aspire to the better angels of our selves and our nation.
Or like the pardons of non-violent drug criminals; there is no political payoff, these are not well-connected individuals. He has done these things purely because they are the right thing to do.
I am proud to have been a supporter and to have had him as my President these past years. He will absolutely be missed.

(1,779 posts)Obama was better than anyone could have been in that position, but I do wish he could have exposed the Caucus Room Conspiracy over the course of his presidency.
Had he done so, the Press and the Republicans could not have repeatedly claimed that he was responsible for the congressional inaction.
I hope Clinton will be more clear about who the enemies of the common good are, who is systematically working to destroy the safety net, etc.
I hope and believe that she (in the words of Thom Hartmann) will take names and kick butt!

(54,330 posts)One of THE greatest tragedies of history is that we had a truly benevolent, compassionate, intelligent president who was thwarted at every turn by men and women of inferior intellect and baser purpose.
They thwarted Obama for no other reason than that they couldn't stand to see someone of his party and his color become successful--a goal at which they were successful enough to prevent him from accomplishing all he could have, but not successful enough to prevent him from accomplishing plenty, and demonstrating that the reason for his setbacks lay 99% with their irrational and selfish preference for his failure over America's success.
Obama's greatness lays in his taking this vicious and irrational opposition in stride, never overtly losing his vision or his cool. He probably sensed, as did Martin Luther King, Jr., that he would not be the one to lead us to the mountain top. But he did help point the way, and never wavered in knowing in which direction it was to be found.

Absolutely stunning and moving. This President might be the last great one for a while. I deeply admire President Obama, and his family, especially Michelle. I feel like they will leave such a huge vacuum when they go, I can't stand thinking about it. Also, your sign-off lines reflect my feelings 100%. I'm getting an ulcer I swear.
