Mall shooting suspect: ‘Creepy,’ multiple arrests, disputes

OAK HARBOR — The 20-year-old man suspected of killing five people with a rifle at a Macy’s makeup counter had a string of run-ins with the law in recent years, including charges he assaulted his stepfather, and was described by a neighbor as so “creepy, rude and obnoxious” that she kept a Taser by her front door.

As investigators tried to piece together information on Arcan Cetin, who was arrested Saturday evening after a nearly 24-hour manhunt, a picture emerged of a troubled young man. Court records show more than a half-dozen criminal cases in Island County alone since 2013.

Authorities said the gunman in the attack at the Cascade Mall in Burlington opened fire in the department store’s cosmetics department Friday night, killing a man and four females ranging from a teenager to a senior citizen. The killer then fled.

Cetin said nothing and appeared “zombie-like” when he was taken into custody on a sidewalk outside his apartment complex some 30 miles away in Oak Harbor by a sheriff’s officer who recognized him as the suspect in the rampage, authorities said.

Cetin immigrated to the U.S. from Turkey and is a legal permanent resident, officials said.

I have a neighbor who is a quiet guy who keeps to himself. I've been practicing for the news vans.

he had an episode where he had someone move into a house on a nice block, then do weird shit like keep the blinds drawn, splatter red paint on the door, bury a big drum in the front yard....then later, they interviewed the neighbors and they all say it was some quiet guy who....kept to himself, or something like that

Of course, even with PTSD the chance that I'm going to flip out and harm someone is near zero.

Unless jberryhill gets on my nerves.

They had a "no contact" order against him until he shaped up, no firearms in the house and he was later compliant with alcohol monitoring and weekly mental health sessions.

It will be interesting to see what they finally decide is wrong with this guy. It seems something has been wrong with him for a very long time.

"The FBI said early Saturday that there was no indication the shooting was terrorism, but local authorities said later in the day that they were ruling nothing out."

I think I know.
He targeted a makeup counter in the department store. Perfect place to find women. He'd already harrassed the young woman living nextdoor.

I think it's targeting women. IOW, terrorism against women.

Police said he was zombie like when picked up, no reaction at all.

Women are left out of both hate crimes and terrorism. I suppose hating us to the point of slaughter is somehow normal.

newspaper of the dead? "killing a man and four females"

Huh? Since when do we ever say that? It would be "a male and four females" which is awkward police-speak, or it would be "a man and four women" which would be normal. This little tic of calling women "females" and men "men" strikes me as MRA bullshit (I've seen it a lot on blogs that have been trolled by MRAers), but how does it get into a newspaper? "a man and four females" sounds exactly like "a man and four dogs" to me, which is degrading.

Honestly, where is my secret island? I want to go there.

a way to be consistent. Or "a male and four females," if you don't mind that both sexes are being treated to the words that are either police-speak or are usually used to describe the sex of animals.

Despite a rather checkered personal history, young Mr. Cetin was able to get his hands on firepower sufficient to end several lives? The NRA and its members must be sooooo proud of yet another murderous accomplishment.

My dad had a couple. No one in my family ever shot anyone. Oh and I might add I grew up in the town this guy is from. No one from Oak Harbor ever pulled this kind of shit before.

I'm not a gun humper. I think open carry people are nuts and believe no civilian needs a military type weapon. However I think you're really over simplifying what went on.
