We're in education but they're the un-trained staff.
I said, "You would honestly consider giving fRump the nuclear codes and the supreme court?"
They had no idea what those 2 things were or why they should care.

(25,704 posts)In college and law school the way I made money was in an industrial laundry. Two of your pulsed workers ran the washing machines. They slung one ton slings of clothes, wet and dry, mixed dye for mops, kept eight washers working for their ten hour shift...and literally saved my dumb ass life twice when I was doing stupid shit.
They made a very good wage. These guys, both had pulses as far as I can tell, had the admiration of the entire plant. Both lwft the Mississippi Delta after about the tenth grade.
It made an impression on me. All work has dignity, except for those with their nose in the air.

(20,592 posts)ve ever done. They're just not curious, they're uninformed, and they prefer it that way. I was not trying to insult anyone, including them. They have no ambition and know nothing outside their town or their families. They live in small, insulated worlds. They work very hard in a difficult situation for very little money, no opportunity to move up, no pension, no healthcare, no benefits.
I was illustrating a Trump voter: No one here who wades through deep, complex, historic ideas and practices.
If you decide to be insulted, have fun. But I was talking about 3, count them, 3 women. That's it.
If you want to count yourself among them, that's your business.

No, I do not want Donald Trump to be President. Yes, I wish people were not supporting him.
That said, being an elitist holier-than-thou type of person just reinforces what they already think of us. I have this theory that being polite to people, respecting their existence, and engaging them with facts and friendship, is a lot more productive than calling them "mouth breathers".

(3,660 posts)It's OK to criticize people for being fat, slow, lacking in physical skill at any activity, lacking in attractiveness, but not, ever, ever lacking in education or intellect. Apparently people here realize that not everybody is blessed with physical ability, but believe everybody is equally blessed with mental ability and there can never be any one higher or lower on that scale.

Exactly what these 3 women do requires NO training. Sorry, but that's the way it is. Everyone else in our organization has some clue about the larger world.
It was a shock to come across them where I work, is all I was saying. How can anyone within the sound of a TV or radio or near a newspaper not know the difference between a charletan and the secretary of state/state senator? Boggles my mind. It's been everywhere for months. How can it be avoided without checking into a monastery?

(11,686 posts)I quit school, got a GED then a few years later went and got my high school diploma. I tried very hard to go through college but my learning disability made it impossible. I however am voting for Hillary. I get confused by the "uneducated" call. If there is an issue I will go on line to learn about it, got to the library, get a book, search for information, and talk to people. I also study BOTH sides of the issue before I form my opinion. It hurts to be considered less because I did not go to college even though I am making the same choice as all of my highly college educated friends and family. I by the way do not make my choices because my educated friends and family tell me to.

Education does not give one a golden crown to wear for life. My life would suck so much if I looked at my less-formally-educated coworkers as somehow being inferior.

(4,187 posts)If they're as low on the totem pole and as uneducated as you say, they are probably very afraid of losing a good, steady job. They may feel very uncomfortable discussing something so sensitive as politics with someone higher up. They may figure that the best way to avoid politics at work is to pretend to be uninformed and uninterested.
If that's the case, the kindest thing to do would be to respect their wishes and avoid discussing politics with them.
