HILLARY:___ Donald was one of the people who rooted for the housing crisis. He said, back in 2006, Gee, I hope it does collapse, because then I can go in and buy some and make some money. Well, it did collapse.
TRUMP: Thats called business, by the way.
HILLARY: Nine million people nine million people lost their jobs. Five million people lost their homes. And $13 trillion in family wealth was wiped out...

That's why you have no role in Public Service.

(10,252 posts)at least in his corporate circles. Gaming the system, not paying your fair share of taxes, leveraging your business ventures with other people's money (banks and bond holders), moving you manufacturing to 3rd world countries, stiffing your workers and contracters, hiding your profits in Swiss banks, etc. That's how the corporate vulture capitalists do business. The republican party is a vast criminal enterprise.

(77,097 posts)Yeah, that IS what's called business. Being a predator and an opportunist, as shrewd as you can be regarding adding the maximum amount of money into your column while AVOIDING having to pay out the maximum amount of money. More in than out. Profit over loss. GOOD business is when you show profit over loss - earned with integrity and honesty and by NOT cheating people or stiffing employees and contractors and subcontractors.
All those little-guy working people and small-business people (many of whom, bewilderingly, support him) are the VERY folks he preys upon and tries to cheat. Why that demographic is stronger for him - I will NEVER understand. If they haven't been stiffed by him, it's simply because they haven't been stiffed by him YET.

Will ANY OF THAT OPEN THEIR EYES?

(10,252 posts)1. The corporatists who worship money as their one and only god. These are your "establishment Republicans." Cut taxes, eliminate regulations, privatize all gov agencies and services, destroy the safety net ('cause that needs taxes). I include the Ayn Randers here.
2. The ignorant red-neck haters, who are just as corrupt as #1 above and envy them. Easily duped that they'll win the lottery, win it big at the casino. Poorly educated. Low information. Desparately wish they were in the #1 group above. White supremacists.
3. Christian fundies, who want to roll back the laws to outlaw abortion, gay marriage. Deny climate change and evolution because God tells them "it ain't so."
They love Trump and take delight in his dystopic vision of the country, rants about what's unAmerican, flirts with strongman Fascism. These people will probably never be swayed to a different point of view. But their children might be.
We, our country, is in a great moral war about the ethics of selfishness versus the ethics of altruism. I don't think that Trump will get elected, but his supporters aren't going away. They'll just keep coming up with yet more unsuitable candidates like they always do.

Hopefully, they are not being replaced in numbers large enough to sustain those world views.
This next generation looks to be in position to turn the government(s) in our favor.

(8,851 posts)...put off by the lack of reaction from the people around me when he made this comment and the one about how he was "smart" for not paying taxes. And I wasn't surrounded by Trump supporters either, although there were a couple. I was starting to feel as though I was overreacting to some of the things he said even though I know that I wasn't. He was truly appalling last night.

(46,682 posts)Hillary finally admits that the policies of the past failed to invigorate the economy, and Trump is an example of why they failed.
All in all, it's best to vote for someone who is willing to try something new.

(1,779 posts)our employment problems in the Republican party and its refusal to allow infrastructure rebuilding. She had a clear chance to do that last night when trump mentioned our dilapidated airports, etc.
I sure hope she will focus on it in future debates.
But "Great job, Hillary!!!"

(46,682 posts)Counting on Republicans to loosen the governmental purse strings was an unrealistic expectation. That's what drives fear in my heart when she says that she will work with Republicans. Because, what they expect in return for their cooperation will be something that will undermine someone.
She said all the things last night that I would expect to hear from the Democratic frontrunner. Especially in regard to equal justice. People would be crazy to vote third party.

(1,779 posts)butt when she negotiates with them. Republicans clearly are lying anytime their lips are moving and they care not a whit for anyone who is not rich.

(46,682 posts)Trump hasn't been paying his fair share of taxes. Instead of invigorating the economy he has been using his business acumen to stiff workers. He is the perfect example of why trickle down doesn't work.
