I have seen so many Facebook pages over the past month with these signs that read, "Make Drug Testing For Those on Welfare Mandatory". I am really sick of seeing so many of these. I am surprised to see some of my friends post this. Anyway, part of me wants to respond but at the same time I know I will spend most the day defending my position on why they should not be drug tested. Has anyone been in this situation? How would you respond? I don't want to make a speech or anything, just let people know I oppose it and why.I guess I should just ignore it but I really am surprised to see so many of my friends go along with this.

(53,661 posts)Then ask if he drug-tested people that came to him for healing. It is the spirit of unconditional love that we should have to honor him, not this self-righteous rhetoric.
You could ask them if they ever cared or loved anyone who had fallen by the path, and what right do they have to judge people they don't know. And what do they intend to do to get those people off drugs. But their response will more than likely be, not their problem.
They don't have a solution for the pain of others, they only want to feel superior. The more they demonize people they don't know, they think it separates them in the eyes of God. But their day is coming if they believe in scripture, nothing will save them from judgment, too.
Then Rush's years on drugs could be mentioned, and how he lied about Fluke being on public assistance for birth control.
They are ignorant. I don't do Facebook, but would not associate with such regressives to begin with. They are closed in and have their defenses up, they don't listen.
At last chance, mention that these memes are there to divert them from the theft of our country. Not by people on welfare, they are powerless. Ask them if it is really going to change their lives.

(9,681 posts)includes congress critters, corporations, EVERYONE who get one penny of government money must take the exact same test, no exceptions. How could anyone be against that?

(5,062 posts)Thanks! I felt for a moment I was the only one against this. I have a story about why I am against it. A woman I use to work with and it really did break my heart. I knew going into detail and writing about it would take too long and they would lose interest. So, a simple explanation is what I was looking for. Still, judging by some who agree with this, I wonder why I am even friends with them. I find this just cruel, personally. To punish someone who is down and feel proud and mighty because you are not in the same boat as them just comes off as being mean.

(1,249 posts)Undoubtedly, a politician or friend owns a share of the drug testing business.
My cousin is drug-tested at work, doesn't feel good about it, and thus wants to punish others.
There's a bit of revenge in it.

(190 posts)It said that if working people were drug tested why not people on welfare? And something about how "Liberals" should stop whining that it was unconstitutional. I made the attempt to engage her in conversation by pointing out that it was indeed unconstitutional because most workers are drug tested by their employers who are privately owned companies, whereas welfare recipients are tested by the Government. That was a week ago. Still awaiting a response. Don't think I'll get one. Righties and logic would seem to be two ships that pass in the night. They have NOTHING to say to one another. lol
