Romney won’t say he’ll overturn immigration order

Mitt Romney is refusing to say that he would overturn President Barack Obama's new policy allowing some young illegal immigrants to stay in the United States.

The Republican presidential candidate was asked three times in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation" whether he would overturn the executive order issued Friday if he's elected in the fall. He refused to directly answer.

"It would be overtaken by events," Romney said when pressed for the second time by moderator Bob Schieffer during the interview taped Saturday while the former Massachusetts governor's bus tour stopped in Pennsylvania.

He explained the order would become irrelevant "by virtue of my putting in place a long-term solution, with legislation which creates law that relates to these individuals such that they know what their setting is going to be, not just for the term of a president but on a permanent basis."

and whatever his 'final' policy, he would immediately be able to instruct his INS people, Homeland Security etc, either to maintain OR NOT maintain the newly announced policy because, as many have noted, its a matter of exercising prosecutorial discretion, which does NOT require an act of Congress.

As a policy it isn't that big a deal. It is to limited in scope and does not have the power of law, it is only a change in enforcement.

Rmoney's refusal to take a stand on anything is what makes this a plus for Pres. Obama. I expect to see more changes like this in the next few months. The debates may very well be dominated by exactly these types of issues.

If the president continues to make these kind of changes, and Romney continues to avoid taking a stand on them, more and more people are going to be thinking twice before voting for Romney.

I remember back in 2008 during the republican primaries, and that was one of the main problems many had with old Mitt, his ability to "avoid" taking a stand on issues, or taking a stand one day, and changing it the next, then going back and forth not really knowing what which side he had taken earlier.

No matter how hard the media and the right wing may try and ignore all of Romney's problems, they will come out, and he will have to take a stand or look like a bigger fool than he already looks like by avoiding the major issues that affect this country.
