A salute to the "other" forgotten Fathers.

To all fathers who are helping to raise, or raising by themselves, their children, a big salute.

There are those "other" Fathers.

There is an old Thai joke,

"Thailand has the hardest working farmers in the world.

Sometimes their husbands help them".

It comes from the olden time when all men were taken for 6 months at a time into corvee labor to help build a massive canal system that became the nation's highway and irrigation system and hundreds of years later is still functioning and critical to controlling the runoff from the monsoons. But the women had to step in and be both Mother and Father.

Today we have millions of kids who are being raised by a single parent.

If they are a Mom then they deserve a second day of observation.

It can't be easy. To all of those moms who have to fill in as dad too, thank you.

Here is one that worked particularly hard to be both the mom and dad:

It's a sad thing that single parenting is so common these days...
some days i still feel like a freak for being alone at school functions when there are couples galore, other times I am grateful for a dozen reasons that I am alone... but it doesn't make the "work" part of it any easier.

having a little recognition like this helps a lot

This is our day of recondition. Please don't steal it, Mothers have their own day.

Changed to reflect Father's Day

Today we have millions of kids who are being raised by a single parent.

If they are a Dad then they deserve a second day of observation.

That would be me.
My kids mother packed a suit case and walked off down the street, leaving me a note that the kids (2 girls) were at the baby sitters. They were 3 & 5 at the time. I didn't see her for 2 months. I found out she was living with the two guys she had been paling around with. As the primary custodial parent, I raised those two girls Basically by myself, without much help from their mother.

In your case you are filling both roles and should be honored for that as well.

In most cases it is the mother but in cases like yours I think the men should get an extra pat on Mother's day as well.

So you can take your second pat now or keep it for Mother's day.

Cheers.

Nothing like smearing men for being deadbeats so often........and on father's day yet besides. At least I assume that's your point by sayng that it's usually mothers who are single parents.
