Pence tried that line (paraphrased) in the debate. But he was stupid enough to float it right after a master Kaine litany of tRump's insults so it fell flat on its face.

But they are programmed to talk that up, even though it is obviously false.

Hewitt is as much an apologist for tRump as Pence is.
