Rule 9 is an official rule of the Republican Party that lays out the procedures the party must follow to replace a presidential nominee who drops out of the race after the national convention.Aug 29, 2016

If he loses the election, he can claim he actually won it except the results were rigged. Same thing he did after the first debate.

He won't drop out.

Never forget that Republicans are criminals at heart, and they make their rules to enable whatever they wish to do.

Here are the rules:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/prod-static-ngop-pbl/docs/Rules_of_the_Republican+Party_FINAL_S14090314.pdf

And note the giant loophole they left for themselves here:

RULE NO. 9
Filling Vacancies in Nominations
(a) The Republican National Committee is
hereby authorized and empowered to fill any and all
vacancies which may occur by reason of death,
declination, or otherwise of the Republican candidate
for President....

Also note that Rule No. 8 permits them to convene an emergency renomination meeting within five days without holding another convention, and most importantly, they reserve the right to suspend the rules as soon as they convene. Only sixteen people from as many states are needed to petition for a meeting. Previous court cases, including that of Frank Lautenberg, show that state ballot laws can be easily circumvented.

Once convened, they can do whatever they wish to do, which should surprise none of us.

It can happen, though I find it exceedingly unlikely. I'm really only pointing it out because I know the Republican Party doesn't have any competent legislative analysts of their own, so I'm doing their work for them in hopes that they see this, and that they're dumb enough to actually try it.

Edit: And I need to point out another very important thing, which is that Mike Pence can initiate this procedure by declining the nomination as Vice President, which would necessarily force such a meeting....

When dozens of prominent Republicans are already calling for him to drop out after just the first day, the rest of the rats jumping ship can't be too far behind.

I give Trump a 50/50 chance of voluntarily dropping out at this point, regardless of what he is saying now.

The possibility of criminal prosecution, however, might. (Depending on what comes out.)

The deplorables are loyal to the man not the party. Any hint of him being forced out and they lose millions of their votes.

IF, and this is a nigh-impossibly improbable if, they do it together with him spewing some bullshit like "Out of context comments a decade ago have made me a distraction. For the good of the party and the nation I am stepping aside and urge all my supporters to fully support Mike Pence like I will." and the RNC types saying "We welcome Donald's energizing and bold input, but we know politics is a field where professional experience and acumen are vital for success, so we unite with him behind Mike Pence" THEN they are left with numerous legal and bureaucratic hurdles about early ballots, faithless electors, "will of the voter" lawsuits and co-ordinatinng an unplanned ad-hoc campaign in the last 4 weeks with an easy apricot albatross for Dems to hang around their necks. They'd almost certainly lose, but they are going to do that anyway.

It all depends, and I type this with a smirk, how co-operative and altruistic both sides of the GOP can be.

Rule 9 is only a internal rule of the Republican Party oversea and military ballots have already gone out as well as early voting in some states, it is too late to remove Trump from the ballot. The GOP is stuck with him.
