(31,706 posts)The appropriate term is opportunist. Davis lost a nasty primary for governor of Alabama (I still can't see any black man being elected to that office in that state) and burned a lot of bridges. He "switched" to keep his fading career alive in hopes of keeping his House seat or winning some other statewide office down the road. He failed. Now the corporate media parades him around cause he's not only a "Democrat who flipped" but also cause of his skin color (bonus points).

The black former congressman from Alabama was an early endorser of the presidents 2008 campaign. Is it a sign of bigger problems for Democrats come November?

Ran in Dem primary for Guv last time.
Trounced.
Alabama ain't near ready for a black Guv.
And they ('we') are ALL pissed off about having a black president.
He knew that, or should have.

(31,802 posts)Davis was the first congressman outside of Illinois to endorse Obama. He did that early on in 2007 before it was fashionable. Obama chose Davis to give the seconding speech at the 2008 convention. Davis was a progressive congressman when he represented part of Birmingham including me when I lived there.
