Hillary might lose Ohio

Cnn money had article about Hillary bad mouthing coal as the reason she will lose Ohio. I have heard the same at work. But i will say these are some of the same guys that said they would quit their job if a woman was made the supervisor. The same guys who belong to a union and vote republican then complain about working conditions. Pike and Scioto are republican counties especially when they gerrymandered the area to be weighted down with Cincinnati. I think Hillary has just as much chance to take the state as Obama did. Also just as a side lots of Pike and Scioto county residents think that southern Ohio was the south and were confederates.

28. Most of Ohio is surrounded by red states

Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky. In some ways it's like Texas; blue cities and red rural and suburban areas. The key is GOTV in the cities.

33. The southern part is basically West Virginia and Kentucky, culturally.

I'm optimistic about the ground game because I only saw Clinton supporters and signs outside of the polling place when I voted yesterday in Dayton. Dayton is considered to be a "purple city," not overwhelmingly Democratic most of the time.

I also saw a pretty high percentage of African American voters.

Ohio has corn fields not many coal mines. They like to say coal trains go through here but that is not true. About once a week. The new facilities in columbus are for double stacked freight.

29. It's been dying for decades

But men kept working in the mines because their fathers and grandfathers did. Of course many died young from black lung and other mining related illnesses, but they made lots of money when they were alive. Even the GOP just cares about the coal companies, not the miners. Mitch McConnell won't schedule a vote on a bill that would protect miners'pensions until after the election.

Trump was leading in Ohio polls but is not now.

I live in a rural area north of Cincinnati surrounded by republicans. That is typical of rural Ohio including eastern and southern Ohio. The cities are a different story, thankfully.

36. Ohio doesn't matter. 270 does. We don't need Ohio to get to 270.

I will substitute NC for OH any day. They are similar in electoral college votes but NC is young, educated, diverse and growing. OH is old, non-diverse, non-educated and dying. When the next census comes out OH will be losing electoral power. NC will be gaining. The idea that OH is the "end all/be all" is no longer true. That's outdated thinking. OH was not a requirement for us to hit 270 in 2008 or 2012. Its just another battle ground state. A state we DO NOT NEED to retain the White House.

Maybe we could talk about how Missouri is the "show me state." And that Missouri always votes with the Presidential winner. Remember that one?

Or maybe we can discuss how Democratic Presidential candidates will never win in the South. Have you seen our status in VA and NC? I can also tell you that SC and GA are not nearly as far behind as people think. By 2020 or 2024 we can win there too.

Bottom line, don't worry about OH. Its a must win for the GOP. Its not a must win for us.

42. One of the men on Trump's economic team is Larry Kudlow who had his own show on CNBC

called "The Kudlow Report".

Another supporter is Lou Dobbs, who has a show "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on Fox Business Network. He used to be on CNN before leaving for his racist and anti-immigration views (even though his wife is a Latina and an immigrant).

So, I would take any anti-Hillary talk, articles, or stories on these 3 channels with a view of suspicion.

48. the eastern part of Ohio is coal country

one of the largest coal companies, Murray Energy, headquartered in the eastern part of Ohio and Mr. Murray HATES Democrats with a passion

the local newspapers are pretty much hardcore right wing and hate Democrats and the EPA almost as much as he does

the EPA is the devil killing jobs in the area; they don't want any regulation of the coal industry because it's bad for jobs

HOWEVER, the same people advocating for coal are some of the same ones who are going after the oil fracking industry in the area

one coal group is suing a company because the company has contracted with a town north of me to either install an oil powered electric plant or maybe retrofit an existing one; can't remember and too lazy to google it right now

the plant is behind schedule because the coal group is suing the company; the coal group is holding up maybe 30 or 40 decent paying jobs because if they can't have their way, they don't want anyone else to

similar coal groups are going after the frackers because of the gases that are released during the process; they're using environmental laws to try and shut the frackers down

can anyone else say hypocrites?

Coal, gas, electric are all owned by the same people. Some say use electricity but it is still fossil fuel. Hydrogen fuel cells would be good for cars. Solar panels are not enough and do not work well here. I believe Ohio University is working with some newer technology.

Of low post count users that come out of the gate concern trolling. Their posts are worded very similar, and have a common theme. They almost always point out how the democratic candidate is "in trouble" because of x poll or y news. Don't tell me you haven't seen this pattern?

Only place for real info on PUBLIC channels. And of course, where there are miners would help, but need to go deep, into understanding the whole picture.
