But the indignity Hillary Clinton has had to suffer by having to share a stage three times with a vile orange-tinted gasbag chock full of putrid and rotting refuse as if they're somehow equal is way beyond the pale.

(42,742 posts)Trump is the best the republican party has to offer. This is the "person" they
wanted to represent them. He is who they would like to lead this country.

(90,758 posts)obviously not qualified is a terribly sad state of affairs for America.
Opposition is supposed to help make one better, but the opposition needs to be someone who is qualified and suitable. Actual discourse and debate can happen, but only between candidates where both are in serious consideration for the job. Who actually have cogent ideas for the country.
At no time has Trump ever been a serious consideration. For the GOP to have even entertained the idea that Trump was suitable shows just how hollow and grasping they are as a political party.
This grin and bear attitude so many of the GOP seem to have has done nothing but make a mockery of our democratic process.
This too shall pass? Not without a lot of indigestion and hard to swallow thinking on the part of those who embraced the madness.
The GOP and its get behind our candidate attitude, regardless of how half-hearted, has served no purpose other than drag us all, especially H.C., through the miasma of Trump's mind and his painfully surreal candidacy.
But that's just my 2 cents.

(90,758 posts)Not really. But at least some of them offered a modicum of cover to exert a veneer of legitimacy as a serious candidate. Not really an improvement at the core, but republican voters would have least shown some semblance of intelligence.
Trumpism isn't a true populism, it is the ebullient embrace of ignorance. Same with Palin and the entirety of the Tea party.
That chip on the shoulder might offer a sense of security but the price for keeping it in place will ultimately prove a downfall.
Republican voters carry such a big chip they have ordained it a cross and wear it like a religion.
