What's the deal with the Clinton maid printing out emails story?

"Clinton directed her maid to print out classified materials"
http://nypost.com/2016/11/06/clinton-directed-her-maid-to-print-out-classified-materials/

It certainly sounds bad taken at face value, but almost no news outlets have picked it up.

Of course the right is going bananas over it.

My question is-- is it just completely bogus, or is there some element of truth to it? Is there a debunking on it somewhere?

Overall, it sounds kind of hard to believe. My guess is it's disinfo put out by some FBI agents, similar to the wild stories put out during the Clinton WH years.

4. From Media Matters

The accusation comes from a NY Post article. Here's part of a response.

http://mediamatters.org/research/2016/11/06/conservatives-run-ny-post-story-about-maid-printing-clintons-emails-botch-classification-history/214345

Confidential Emails Were Classified After The Fact And Originated From Clinton Aide. Neither of the two classified emails referenced by the New York Post were sent by Clinton, and Clinton did not make any request for Santos to print either email. Both emails were classified years after the fact -- one in October 2015, and another in January 2016 -- at the lowest level of classification, “confidential.” The sole case the Post cited of Clinton asking for a message to be printed was not classified. [U.S. Department Of State, 10/30/15; 1/29/16]

5. They had problems with the state Department printer

And had then printed at home.

I believe there were 8 confidential emails that were printed and they weren't classified at the time.

More to the point is the classification "confidential'. When I was in the UN and was on the daily circulation list (1980s) of US States Department teletype, everything was Confidental, including items from the front page of the newspaper. Nothing at the real level of classification Secret or Top Secret were in the emails.

8. I remember reading that times & places of meetings would get a small c for "confidential,"

then once the meetings took place there wasn't any reason for the info to be classified, which makes perfect sense.

11. it's freaking insane how so many in the media can't seem to report basic things like that

I guess they'd rather print inflammatory scandalous crap than point out basic facts.

12. well, to be clear, the specific accusation is that her maid printed classified emails

when she didn't have clearance.

I know it's bogus, I just want a rebuttal to use against people who post this story.

15. You should tell them to frack off

They're just throlling you

If you hear email, assume dishonest motivation

Btw, there was no classified header email on her server, thats the fact

Only someone who already distrust her, maybe you, would to this well repeatedly, assume the worst

10. Not classified

at the time. But actually, how do we know she doesn't have some kind of security clearance. Every high level official has household help. Don't we have maids, cleaners, chefs, flower arrangers, etc going in and out of the White House all the time?

14. right... yes. It's also possible the Marina in the emails is someone else, not the maid

The real red flags in the story are the lack of balance, the lack of any possible exculpatory facts, and the overall accusatory tone
