2. I would prefer a civil war over a world war

We shouldn't drag everyone else into our mess. Plus maybe we can finally separate out into smaller countries based on regions of the US. I think people would be more satisfied with that.

3. My winter reading project is Rise and Fall of the Third Reich

I think that it is very possible that we could be seeing the beginning of the rise of the Fourth Reich. Democrats are far too often the adults in the room and cave to the constant temper tantrums of the Republicans and far right. I am not convinced that they will stand up to the bully Trump and far right controlled Congress. Failure to do so would most likely be catastrophic to this country.

Realistically is it not rational for Americans to think that we would remain the dominent world power in perpetuity. It is the natural part of history for dominent positions in the world to change over time. Once upon a time England (later the UK) was a dominent power but that faded over time. What hurts is that we will be responsible for our fall from world dominence. Yes Russia assisted Trump in this election but, for the most part, our own people are responsible for what is going on.

I think that we are on a one way trip towards a downward spiral. The conservative/far right/Alt-Right/KKK/White Nationalists are just not rational people and I just don't think that you will ever be able to bring this country back together again. If that can't be accomplished then we might have to look at breaking up the US. I would love to see California, Oregon and Washington form a coalition and either split off into their own country or join Canada. A new country would have all the Silicon Valley Hi Tech companies and all the west coast ports. I think that Canada might find the West Coat pretty attractive. California is an expensive place to live but Oregon and Washingtom could become attractive to immigrants from the US. Maine, if it wasn't for Governor LePage could join Canada. And could you imagine if New York tried to join Canada? Most Blue States historically give more to the Federal Govt then Red States who are generally takers. Imagine a Trump led US that broke up and lost the Blue states to Canada and/or independent counties (or country).

Just how long will people want to fight this war with the far right. They played a very patient, long game to win control of State legislatures (and gerrymandering), US Senate and Congressional seats, pass restrictive voting laws, pass laws against reproductive freedom, and so on and so on. The only recourse we might have in the long run is secession and possible Civil War.
