Trump may make me homeless

I am only back on today. Have been crying for 10 days now. The day after the election results I spoke with my Rep and Senator, who are personal friends. I work every day for the elderly, poor and disabled. I am a good advocate, as I am one. Disabled due to abusive husband throwing me down cement stairs. Most folks don't know that as I am well turned out and smart. I was on our DEM Exec Board until last year. While the television machine is obsessing about his Cabinet picks and where he ate a hamburger, Ryan( from my state) has a hard on. The stuff he's wanted to demolish since he cut his eye teeth is now in reach. Low Income Housing, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. My Rep and Senator told me this may be done in the first 3 months. Go online and check out Ryan's "plan" to modernize. The stuff Walker has big and bolded here will now be done to the entire country. When these Rs get power they move FAST. They have burned WI to the ground. Make no mistake, esp if Trump is only a figurehead, this stuff gets done fast. We have no power and they have no morals. All the WI guys Priebus, Walker, Johnson, Ryan are pure evil and greed. Our homeless pop will increase tenfold. It is terrifying. I will post my letter to the editor published Friday later on today.p.s. I have never prayed this hard in my entire life.

Kansas. Wisconsin. Louisiana. This is the plan for the entire country. Shock Doctrine, state by state. Fuck those who say, "Let's wait & see." The repubs control all three houses of government & right out of the shoot they get to nominate a SCOTUS justice. We are so fucked. They will not give up this power, easily, either.

The governor's race of Cooper (D) v. McCrory (R) still hasn't been decided, but Cooper's ahead by 6,600 votes and has declared himself the winner.

All the Moral Mondays in the world will not stop Trump, Pence, et al.

2. I was laid off in September, I am afraid I will never find another job in my field.

At the beginning of my career, we were suffering from Reganomics and I didn't find a job for 3 years. Now we are staring down the barrel of something mush worse and I find myself looking for work.

I had a good lead prior to the election, but they just held out until after the election, last Friday I received word that they had decided to not go forward with the position. So it starts again.

Many of us are in solidarity with you. I too grieved. Genuinely grieved, and still am.

I know a terrible thing has happened in America, but make no mistake, there are many, many, many, many... good people in this country. We will hold each other up and get each other through by our compassion, support and generosity in multiple ways.

7. it is easy to worry

especially since there seems to be nothing to stop them, but it is not like we have not been here before.

In 2000, an amoral idiot became President in spite of getting fewer votes than the Democrat. Both houses of Congress were in Republican control.

They did, of course, do some permanent damage with the Bush tax cuts and the Iraq war and in any number of ways which were below the radar, and/or down the memory hole, but they did not quite manage to destroy everything.

Get yourself a cold drink and dance with somebody who loves you. The good ship Titanic is still above water and no amount of worrying is going to deflect that ice berg.

And because of that we lost the Voting Rights Act and Citizens United happened. Both had a direct effect on THIS election.

The gop is nowhere close to the 60 votes needed to overcome fillibusters. So,most legislation will end up dying in the senate. Several gop senators already said they would oppose getting rid of fillibuster at start of this legislative session. Rand paul, orin hatch and mc cain so far.

9. My God ... ummm ... keep contacting your Rep & Senator,

and keep looking for pro-active steps to take and/or groups or officials taking proactive steps (so you can show them your support or follow their lead).

You obviously are already being proactive by contacting Rep & Sen. Also, some DU threads have info about contacting House Oversight Committee (not directly related to your points that ryan/etc in control -- but worth calling, anyway), and calling paul ryan survey # about ACA.

Also, if anyone gets ANY info about efforts directly related to fighting this mess jodymarie describes, please share them.

In meantime, try to stay up on talkingpointsmemo.com coverage of Medicare, esp., and soc. sec. plus initiatives/fights by Elijah Cummings and Katherine Clark. There may or may not be a direct solution in following these, but it is worth a try.

Here are some DU & other links as examples of part of what I have described here:

Next link -- once you click on this, scroll down for number & website of House Oversight Committee. (Also, there are many reasons to call this committee, only one or two f which are mentioned jere. Other DU posts and web sites cover more, but I don't have links at my fingertips just now.)

I cried for two days, and feel for you.

What you're predicting hasn't happened yet, but it's never too soon for you to gather possible resources from wherever you can research them.

It seems easy to say these things, but please hang tough. Many DU'ers have gone through tough times, and this place has ways of helping people out on lots of levels.

Take deep breaths. Take walks. When I've been in trouble, getting out in nature has calmed my nerves and put my life into different perspective.

Wishing you some peace ahead.

It makes me cry just thinking it will all be for naught. I'm living off my family's charity right now. God forbid I have any dignity. But I guess that's the libertarian way. I can only imagine how horrible it must be for people who don't have family to fall back on.
