HoW long will it take for the democrats to recover?

The mid-terms are gone because of the sheer number of democratic senators up for reelection. I can't see a seriously viable candidate on the horizon for 2020. So, is 2024 the earliest?

It should be obvious by now that Democrats just don't turn out to vote or if they do, they vote 3rd party or they vote Republican. There are now new rules in the White House and Progressives have taken over what used to be the Democratic Party who are all willing to work a rapist and scam artist.

Even if free trade was a wash between Trump and Sanders, the anti-immigrant anger would have given the Republicans the edge.

Trump and the Republicans are going to kill the ACA and decimate both Medicare and Social Security. Once all of this pain and suffering sets in, if people don't abandon Republicans by the tens of millions and start flocking to the Democrats, then there is no hope left for this country.

remember? Hillary kicked his ass in reality. Truth be told I think the election was scammed and it will come out. BTW, Dems are organizing all over the place for 2018 so I think the reports of the Democratic Party's demise are greatly exaggerated.

If he manages to avoid stepping on third rail and is merely a bad president, a long time. If he does what I expect him to do, a quick backlash could result.

I'm more interested in whether the Democratic Party learns anything. In their arrogance they've allowed a complete and utter fraud to become the commander in chief of the world's more powerful military. The last time we had a moron Republican who fashioned himself a tough guy, we started two disastrous wars that will likely still be waging in some fashion for the rest of my life. We can't afford to let anymore men like them get into the White House.

Does this sound fearful? Sure, and I'd wager it will work a hell of a lot better in motivating the millions of apathetic Americans who made the grievous mistake of looking at this election as a choice between the lesser of two evils.

I tried to see exactly where we stood as a party and was horrified at how few tools we have to defend ourselves. They have everything:

The White House i.e. The executive branch which includes Attorney General who decides what they want to prosecute and what they choose to ignore. With that the ability to appoint Supreme Court members so they in a real sense they have the Judiciary.

The Senate

The House

25 States where they hold all levels of government we have 5

31 Governorships

We have a steep mountain ahead and why one of my first posts after Election Day was "we are all underground now" We have got to build now to run for every seat at every level everywhere and fast. Starting at the local level is where I see us needing to start.

It's painfully obvious that democratic leadership has learned precious little from this. It is even obvious in the attitude of some members on here who are trying to find who to blame instead of looking to learn and grow from this. With 23 Democratic Senators up for re-election in 2018, there are no realistic chances of taking Senate majority. I believe that the republicans will get rid of Trump after the mid-terms and "normal" political Pence will be running as the incumbent.

We won the popular vote by almost 2 million votes.

WTF?

I keep hearing bout the Dems being in "disarray"? I don't buy it. Everybody is just shell shocked for now. I see a HUGE backlash against the Fuhrer.

I am not usually optimistic about anything, but THIS time will be very ugly. They will over reach; they ALWAYS do.

Are we fucked right now? Yeah. But I don't see it as being perpetually fucked.

We have the electoral college to deal with to win the Presidency. The 2 million+ lead is going to do Hillary just as much good as winning the popular vote did for Gore.

My fear is that the republicans will do what they want to do and then blame Trump for everything. Get rid of him and then have "normal" politician Pence take over. Voters have proved over and over again that they have the attention span of a gnat.

when the opposition party holds the white house...Trump could be really awful...they could try to end Social Security and Medicare...if you just sit on your hands until the next presidential election...you are wasting time and guaranteeing the gerrymander will continue as a census begins in 2020.

I looked for the usual welcome/introductions thread but must have missed it so I'll jump in here because obviously nobody knows me here from years ago and I didn't see a better place to elbow back into the bar. The band is still playing. The party ain't over. Was never into political forums on the net ever so just dabbled here and there. So much in the air right now. These are important times. So here I am, back on a political forum. Well guess what, I voted. Yup. Me. I voted. First time since I voted for Bill in 1992 which was the first time I voted, ever. That was the last time I voted, until this one.
This one seemed to bring everyone out. It mattered. Everything within reach of the sun matters. Everything. If that thing that gets no sun, ah well, forget my attempt at humor.
Anyway, THE SUN SHALL COME UP AGAIN.

O.K. so there is my little rant in lieu of a welome/introductions page which most sites on the net have so newbies can say "hi".

So there, I said HI 😎

Again...
