Pornography isn't the problem.

There is no question that we are still a very sexist and patriarchal society where women are mistreated in a systematic way. Sure, we've made a lot of progress, but I don't think I need to tell DU the problem still exists.

There's also no question that was are a capitalistic society where workers are exploited.

There's also no question that these factors compound with one another. Some elements of capitalism as we know it are bolstered by sexism, and vice versa (that women make less money than men, that there's is a gendering of the division between paid and unpaid labor pertaining to the domestic realm, etc).

Both of these factors are pervasive throughout our society and yes they do show up within pornography and other forms of sex work. But that doesn't mean that pornography is inherently problematic.

The fact that a woman may be able to make more money taking her clothes off for men than say doing another line of work is deeply problematic and troubling and mean's that the agency of women is constrained in our society. But it also doesn't mean that a woman could not decide of her own free will that she would prefer this career path to another.

It's also worth noting for a lot of people that working at Walmart or McDonald's isn't exactly a choice either.

So yes there are problems concerning sex work, because these are problems throughout our society. But turning porn into some sort magical sphere completely separated from the larger forces of the economy, culture, and society that produces it not only missed the real problem concerning the mistreatment of women and workers in our society, but in many ways upholds them.

Although, I am a gay Marxist so my perspective on this may be slightly skewed.

Really? In what way does it show that? If anything it shows women have more choice and more agency than men.

you can continue your studies in science or take up a trade where you gets things shoved up every hole you have by one or two or three strangers that probably don't bathe. same difference, girl! you are soooooo lucky for these neat choices you have.
