Welfare Deform A Great Success For The GOP
"Welfare deform" under the banner of Temporary Assistance For Needy Families has been a great success for the GOP. It is just another "storefront" program like an old Hollywood street scene where you walk through the doors of the saloon, general store or some other business only to find yourself in a field. There is no there there when you get there. TANF has successfully ended welfare and kept millions of women and children from the assistance they need to live in dignity.
The program should have been named NANF. Nonexistent Assistance For Needy Families. The problem is that very few qualify for assistance and there is no money there either. All there is is harassment to get any job or face being taken off a program that actually provides no assistance. It is the typical "snake oil" ruse the GOP uses any time it creates something unless it is some gift for the rich.
Programs the GOP produces are as sterile and impotent as Republican ideas. All it does is cause misery. It even kills people.
Women now have only one choice if they fall on hard times. That is they are faced with becoming prostitutes to feed their kids. They are faced with getting into bad relationships to survive. Somehow I cannot understand how it is moral to be so cruel. To use the excuse that we hurt people by helping them.
We are no longer a decent county when so many Americans turn on the vulnerable. Our flag as the GOP portrays it is no longer a flag worth pledging allegiance to, if we continue on this path.
