The White House Just Obliterated Trump's Jobs Carrier Stunt With A Giant Fact Bomb

The Hill reported that Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that the White House was pleased that the jobs were staying, then he added:

“If (Trump) is successful in doing that 804 more times, then he will meet the record number of manufacturing jobs” created during Obama’s eight years in office.

Earnest went further, saying that the roughly 800,000 jobs he cited were new jobs created under Obama’s watch. He said the president protected “more than a million” additional manufacturing jobs in the Midwest with his bailout of the auto industry.

“The one difference would be the president-elect is talking about protecting jobs,” he said. “The metric I’m using is actually creating jobs.”

What the White House didn’t mention, but is also true is that Donald Trump and Mike Pence have now set a precedent in their dealings with Carrier that every CEO in the United States is going to use. Trump better be prepared to for a flood of companies demanding tax cuts and concessions or they will take jobs out of the United States. Trump and Pence won’t care if their PR ploy sets off a binge of ransoming local and state governments across the country.

there is a board in Indiana state gov't that can award tax credits without legislative approval. Pence appointed himself chair of that board, apparently. That might be why Pence didn't give up his seat in the Indiana Gov's office yet. They allowed the deal of around $800k/yr in tax breaks.

Boeing Received Illegal Tax Subsidy for 777X, WTO Panel Says
Julie Johnsson
, Andrea Rothman
, and Ian Wishart
November 28, 2016 — 10:06 AM EST November 28, 2016 — 11:59 AM EST

Boeing Co. received an illegal tax break from Washington state as part of $8.7 billion in aid to assemble the 777X and manufacture the jetliner’s carbon-fiber wing there, the World Trade Organization said.

An incentive cutting a state levy on gross receipts by 40 percent is a prohibited subsidy that must be removed, a three-judge panel said Monday in Geneva. The tax break, which takes effect when the first 777X is delivered in 2020, gives an unfair advantage to the U.S. planemaker to the detriment of overseas manufacturers, the WTO determined.

The European Commission said Boeing would gain $5.7 billion from the disputed benefit, while the U.S. company put the value at $1 billion over 20 years. The decision marks the latest twist in a longstanding clash between the U.S. and the European Union over government incentives to ease the heavy costs of developing new jetliners for Chicago-based Boeing and Europe’s Airbus Group SE.

is for "some" jobs - 1,000. Once these companies get their deals, the follow through is non-existent. The states and taxpayers are taken as "some" jobs are kept local and many more move away for greater profits.

What they want away for even more profit.

The people who pay are the workers, in fewer jobs, more taxes and/or cuts to services to pay for the breaks.

And the unions get circumvented, so their collective power and demands are minimized or negated.

Yep, the media is sure going to keep an eye on the guy. This approach is going to work wonders for Trump.

Obama didn't realize that he didn't need to create or keep nearly as many jobs as he did. All he needed to do was pick out one or two specific companies and play up their plans to move jobs out of the country to the media. Then he makes a deal with them and plays that up to the media. The media eats it up. The white working class eats it up.

Trump can do this every six months, and the media would dutifully report his job saving heroics in large print on the front page. Meanwhile he might lose thousands of jobs per month net in the monthly jobs report. The media will dutifully put that in small print in the business and economy section. The economy could lose a million jobs in Trump's first four years, and Trump will be called a "Jobs President" by the Republicans. The Dems will gape in disbelief. The media will explain that the two parties disagree on Trump's jobs prowess.

buying advertising from them. Get ready to see Carrier ads day and night for awhile.

The McDonald's coffee case is a prime example. The media reported that "Woman spills hot coffee and wins millions!"

They failed to report that Mickey D's had raised the temp of the coffee to make more coffee per bean and stay fresh longer. After confidentially settling the resulting burn cases they saw it was still very profitable. The lady in that case almost died and had he clitoris and labia removed. The award was a couple of million (1 day of coffee sales) but the judge reduced it to $900 k.

The media dared not report that for fear of losing a big advertiser. They did the same with the BP oil spill. They have never reported what has really happened down here and just how bad it was/is!

when tax break deals like that happen for big companies the low level workers and other working poor have their tax increased. It is amazing how much tax comes out of a poor persons work check for taxes each month. When someone says working poor do not pay their share they either are stupid or uninformed. The workers at Carrier are going to pay the price for keeping their job.
