I hope the SC overturns Roe vs Wade, Gay Marriage and Civil Rights

This is what the country needs right now. No protections of anyone but white men. Unfortunately, that is the only wake up call that will spur people to go to the ballot box.

1. That will not spur people to the ballot box

It didn't spur Jill Stein voters, it didn't spur Bernie write ins, or those who voted for a gawd damn gorilla when they knew darn well what was going to happen.

2. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

This whole we-need-to-ruin-the-country-in-order-to-save-it line of thinking is absurd. Believe it or not Democrats can win again without undermining a half century of progress.

3. I think Noam Chomsky said it best when he was critisizing progressives who refused to vote for

Hillary as making a bad mistake:

"Chomsky attacked the arguments made by philosopher Slavoj Zizek, who argued that Trump’s election would at least shake up the system and provide a real rallying point for the left.

“[Zizek makes a] terrible point,” Chomsky told Hasan. “It was the same point that people like him said about Hitler in the early ’30s… he’ll shake up the system in bad ways.”

4. Please don't go Susan Sarandon on us.

“Really,” Sarandon said, adding that “some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately if he gets in, things will really explode.”

6. Yeah, who cares about all the people who will die as a result.

Burn it down. Burn it all down.

White straight men usually do better than people of color, women and LGBTQs or anyone who is low income under fascism, so it'll all work out...

Sacrificing the vulnerable is worth it to someone who isn't.

Take that attitude to JPR.

8. Why does the myth persist that failed states come back better than they were? This country "needs"

pain and death? I strongly disagree. I also disagree that bad countries always recover to be good ones.

know what this country needs anymore. There is deluge of stupid uninformed people that are easily manipulated.

18. It's bullshit "tough love" on a national scale...

Of course, "tough love" always seems to emphasize the "tough" and goes really light on the "love" side.

9. It's a country where most people muck along in neutral with no brain engaged until

something happens and then it's a WTF, they can't do that. It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're forced to fly along with a bunch of turkeys in the land of Idiocracy.

10. Oddly enough I don't think any of that will happen

Sure the bible belt/southern republicans would love all those things. Republicans I know from other states don't. Time will tell though, for better or for worse

17. that's not the way this works

...you could be looking at decades and millions of personal tragedies later before redress and recovery of rights, if ever. The rights we are afforded by law were long fought for and must be defended by each and every generation like their lives depend on it, because they do.

23. what the country does not need...

is to move backwards by decades. I get the sentiment and I hope the Trumpers feel the pain of their vote and blind faith but we can't afford the "wake up call" that you are suggesting.

25. Why don't you wish for Trump to wreck the lives of the folks that voted for him not..

the groups that stood strong in resistance against him. As a openly gay black man, I don't need a f*cking wake up call. The majority of white voters that vote for the GOP despite policies that will harm them do.
