The rethug circus over "Fast and Furious" is all about laying groundwork for impeachment

Anyone really believe that the rethugs - who are all about easy access to firearms - are that worked up over guns being sent to Mexico?

Don't be fooled. The real reason behind this whole three-ring circus is to lay the groundwork to impeach President Obama. Make no mistake - if Obama wins in November, this will become their primary focus. It's no different than what they did to Clinton. They simply cannot stomach the idea of a second Obama term.

It's all smoke and mirrors - trying to distract attention from the fact that they have absolutely no real solutions on how to fix the economy, bring jobs back, etc. Once Obama wins re-election, it will become a scorched earth campaign to make sure he doesn't finish his term.

Many will be defeated this fall, and they want to be able to "secure" their job before doing anything stupid like attempting impeachment against a sitting President since Clinton.

Bush should have been impeached in 2001, the day after he took the mantles due to the Supreme Court fuckup.

Winning the White House isn't enough. If the rethugs maintain their grip on Congress, they will do everything in their power to make sure absolutely nothing gets done over the next four years.

If they do manage to stay in power - I do believe they will do absolutely anything and everything to get rid of Obama. It's bad enough for them that a Democrat is in the White House - that he's a black Democrat just sends them over the edge into total madness. There is absolutely nothing logical or reasonable in their dealings with Obama.

he should have been impeached in 2001. He was installed as the result of a bloodless coup, but impeachment, according to the Constitution, is reserved for 'high crimes and misdemeanors' and, until Operation Shocking and Awful, nothing in Bush's conduct in office rose to that standard.

Call me a purist if you will, but I think 'impeachment' should be reserved for the most serious criminal offenses like, for example, committing fraud against the people of the United States by lying us into a war. If we start using impeachment to settle political disputes, we run the risk of lowering ourselves to 'banana republic' standards.

Obama invoked Executive Privilege on these documents, the end.

Issa's attempt to create a new Whitewater investigation is all over but the GOP shouting.

Bush could not do this then because there were no administration documents to turn over. There was nothing for which he could claim "executive privilege" (something he did do on about 6 other occasions while President).

Briefly, the DOJ (not congress) was investigating the leak of a CIA agent. Who made the claim that her cover was leaked? The CIA.

And so, what you have is the DOJ (executive branch) investigating a leak of a CIA agent's cover (another executive branch function) by multiple White House sources (again, executive branch functions).

Catching on yet? All three groups were within the executive branch. Congress also held hearings on the matter, but those were not part of the prosecution that was ultimately brought against Libby by the DOJ ... again, two functions of the executive branch.

Finally, its pretty clear that at least 3 administration officials leaked Plame's name, Rove and Armitage admit doing so. Libby also leaked the info, and when asked about it, he lied and said not only did he NOT leak it, but that he learned the name from Tim Russert. Libby assumed that one of the others had leaked the name to Russert, but they had not. Libby gets caught lying.

Also ... those who were leaked to were in the press, the executive branch has no authority to use "executive privilege" with them either.

Again ... you might want to read up on this.

But they aren't interested in doing so. The economy is just fine for their fucking sponsors. The 1% is killing it in this economy. Everything is going according to plan.

As far is your impeachment point, I do not disagree. No Democratic President will ever, ever be legitimate in their opinion. Even when he's doing the work of the 1%. He's just not doing it fast enough. These people are fascists, they want complete and utter control and until they get it, they will not be happy.

This tactic worked so well for them the last time....every time a Democrat gets elected, we are sure to expect them to impeach. But they have to win enough seats in congress for this to work....

The purpose is to knock the President off balance. It's a distraction timed intentionally to have the maximum effect of embarrassing him in the months leading up to the election.

They're counting on the President standing behind AG Holder, and then having Holder fall in September or October.
