ORLANDO, Fla. On the day George Zimmermans wife testified that she and her husband were broke, she had more than $57,000 in her individual credit union account, according to prosecution records. Shellie Zimmerman, 25, is free on $1,000 bail, awaiting trial on perjury charges.
Prosecutors allege she lied when she testified at her husbands bond hearing April 20 that the couple had no savings.
Her husband is back in the Seminole County Jail, charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of an unarmed black 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin. Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. ordered his bond revoked, accusing him and his wife of deliberately misleading him about their ability to come up with bail money.
Its not clear how much money the couple has now. Several weeks ago, defense attorney Mark OMara reported that a legal defense fund, started with $120,000 that the Zimmermans surrendered to him, had raised a total of $220,000 and was netting about $1,000 a day in contributions.
