The New York Times: U.S. media became 'de facto instrument of Russian intelligence'By PETER STERNE 12/13/16 04:37 PM EST
On Monday, The New York Times published a tick-tock showing how hackers with ties to the Russian government attempted to influence the U.S. election.
The article explicitly stated that the Times and other American media organizations unwittingly aided Russian hackers by reporting on the contents of private emails from the DNC and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.
The Times wrote:
"Every major publication, including The Times, published multiple stories citing the D.N.C. and Podesta emails posted by WikiLeaks, becoming a de facto instrument of Russian intelligence.

(10,173 posts)How delighted many in the media were, diving deep in emails between private citizens.
Few cared about curation, or second , third hand verification.
When Sen. Reid expressed righteous indignation, many said he was crazy and that he should shut up.
Now the media is all introspective n shit.
Too late.

Until the next time it matters. Then, not so much.

(82,849 posts)They did the same thing in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, publishing every scrap of misinformation Judith Miller could squeeze under a byline. And in 2004, when they had everything they needed to publish the story of the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping, but sat on it until after Bush was safely re-elected because they didn't want to influence the 2004 election by, you know, sullying the campaign with a bunch of pertinent facts about the incumbent.
And here we are again in 2016, and the Times is just now figuring out how useful their idiotic reporting was during the presidential campaign. The watchword this time around is "unwitting."
If Edward R. Murrow was alive today to see what has become of the Fourth Estate, he's never stop throwing up.
