I think you give many of his supporters way too much credit for supposedly paying attention.

Unfortunately, I think many of them simply knew they weren't going to vote for the Democrat, or knew they weren't going to vote for Hillary... and any mention they might've ever heard of ANY of his sins and crimes was only in the context of a denial against "the liberal media."

Desperate, skill value plummeting, families falling apart. They were spooked into a stampede by ISIS, Putin, and the Republicans. They are thinking "run for the lifeboats," and they don't care about anyone's opinion concerning how they get there. Will they do evil? Damn right they will.

No one's going to shame anyone into anything. If we are going to establish the liberal, sustainable, just, human-centric philosophy we all know is right, we will not do it by emotional "force." We won't do it by rhetoric, at least not the weak tea rhetoric we currently use. We are going to have to bribe people with a better world.

who saw through his bull and didn't vote for him and against their own self interest.

So what is different about these people?

This is not about shaming anyone. This is about knowing who we are dealing with. It is important to realize that these self-evident characteristics are true so we don't make the mistake of losing our souls trying to woo them and we don't misunderstand what they are.

They watch Fox news. They, like the proverbial frog in a pot, have been watching Fox for so long, they are brainwashed, and are inoculated against facts and logic. I got a couple of them in my family. When I refute their pronouncements with facts, references, and reason, they respond with, "we'll have to agree to disagree." IOW, they aren't going to change their minds even though they have been told the truth....

It always comes back around to a willingness to believe what confirms one's bigotry and sexism.

That's why the message is so durable, even among intelligent people and even when the message is provably false. Because the message is not what they are there for. They are there for confirmation of their bigotry and sexism. You could put Hillary's plans that would benefit them on their breakfast plate with a personalized invitation to read it, and they will STILL say that she would do nothing to benefit them.

This is why we cannot waste time trying to win those people over. We will not. We are wasting our time with all our handwringing about how we wronged the rust belt white working class. We need to move on to the heretofore disinterested. That is where our votes will come from.

People don't think well when they are scared, even people who usually have very good critical thinking skills. Trump gave them targets for their fears, Mexicans, Muslims etc and told them he would make them go away. He would take on those bad, evil politicians and money grubbing Wall Street guys and make them go away too. If you're scared enough, you'll believe just about anything. Sadly, very, very sadly they completely missed the fact that Trump is the scariest thing of all.

The headline say "they" meaning tRump supporters, and "you" meaning the reader.

But the 7 points totally contradict that by switching "you" to mean the tRump supporters.

The reader experiences cognitive dissonance and thus the writer is less effective with the points.

... Let alone the shouting all caps bogosity.
