Chief Justice John Roberts will be America's savior.

The emergency stays and rulings will be flying by April and it will be left to him to keep Trump and Congress from going over the cliff. I'm sure he is aware of how he and the Court he presides over, as well as his personal reputation will be historically judged. Few men have served as CJ and each holds a prominent place in all aspects of this country. He is by all accounts a strict Federalist who believe in a strong independent country with a strict rule of law. Although he has repeatedly proved he lied about stare decisis in his confirmation hearings, I'm betting we're going to see a slightly different CJ Roberts. He's smart and rejects the fascism we are faced with....not to mention his ideology is directly in line w/ Pence hint hint.
Yes, I know he's an A+ asshole on most things we hold dear on the left, but, lets recall....he is the reason for Obama care becoming law. His decision tipped the balance and his opinion clearly showed that he has at least a possible heart and mild empathy for the people.

While we're talking about Trump, Ryan and McConnell, keep your eye on the courts. The fur will be flying, not only from Democrats in Congress, but there will lots of citizen petitions for relief. And just because nobody is talking about them, Trump has multiple civil cases winding their way through the courts

flare up at any time.

But Trump doesn't have this Congress in his corner. Pence is their man and they will see to him getting the seat.

As to Roberts, if they didn't wack him for Obama care, Trump will be the big payback. There was $$$ to be made there. This ( Trump) is about power. He's dispensable.

for while I rarely agree with him, conservative as he is, I have never thought he was insane like so many others on the right seem to be.

Regarding Roberts' "possible heart and mild empathy."

The Court had come to be seen as too obviously political and an overturn of Obamacare would have cemented that view, damaging both the Court and Roberts' reputation. So he voted to uphold the Act while he inserted a poison pill: making the Medicaid expansion voluntary state by state, imo hoping that would cause the whole framework to collapse.

So far it hasn't quite done that, but it has contributed to the unpopularity of the Act.

Roberts is just another shithead, but he's smarter than most and better able to conceal it.

That said, his brains and circumspection may make him an effective brake on Trump's worst abuses. "May."

I don't want to see what I'd find with those search terms, hoping someone knows.

Thanks for the thread...worth pondering! Ever hopeful...

I see the next couple years full of legal chaos which will hopefully slow down, if not stop, their destruction.
