Lets promise ourselves that we will not be deterred from fighting the good fight, that we will firmly stand our ground no matter how those who oppose us try to weaken our spirit, or shake our resolve.
Lets promise our fellow citizens that we will have their backs, that we will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them, and never lose sight of the fact that we are one people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.
Lets promise each other that when times are bad, we will demonstrate the fortitude necessary to make things better, and the courage to persist in that endeavour no matter how overwhelming the odds against us might seem to be.
Lets promise our children that we will do everything necessary to leave them a better, cleaner, more peaceful planet, despite those who would despoil it for profit and/or political gain.
Lets promise our neighbours that we will be as vigilant in protecting their rights and their freedoms as we are protecting our own.
Lets promise our communities that we can be counted on to stand up for justice, fairness, and equality, even when faced with those who are determined to crush such notions as outdated concepts that are no longer relevant to the nation that was founded upon them.
Lets promise our country that we will protect and defend her from all enemies, foreign and domestic, and will never bow down to those who seek the destruction of our democracy from afar or from within.
Lets promise to SPEAK UP loud and clear wherever and whenever necessary, in order to ensure that those who have now shown themselves to be our enemies are defeated, that those who seek to divide us do not succeed, that those determined to undermine us will not prevail.
Given our present circumstances, 2017 looms as a year of uncertainty, a year full of fear, a year of untold despair.
But lets promise ourselves that this will be the Year of Commitment to our long-held values, and the year those who oppose those values are shown to be who they are.
Happy New Year to All but especially to those who are preparing for battle, and are ready to fight.
