He is a Norwegian Mathematician/Sociologist who has studied empires over time and developed predictive models used to predict when an empire will collapse. In 1980 he predicted that the Soviet Union would collapse within 10 years. His prediction was correct as they collapsed in 1989.

In 2009 he wrote a book where he predicted that the USA might suffer a collapse similar to what the USSR experienced by 2025. After Trump's victory, a magazine contacted him to see if he stands by his prediction. He does. I would recommend reading the article at the link below.
