(7,299 posts)Republicans would get the guy they want, Pence, and they will also be able to blame the Democrats for doing the dirty work at the same time. This will also be used as a justification for the Republicans trying to impeach the next Democratic President. I say we let Trump HAUNT the Republican Party for the full four years. That might not be the emotional play but it's the smart play.

(4,175 posts)The founders left us with very few options to deal with elections gone wild.
Let the Repubs take their full term in the barrel.
Then let history record what happens during and after what I expect will be an incomparable historic debacle.

(171,036 posts)this mistake, unless he becomes seriously dangerous. Yea, I know he is already, I think sadly he has to prove it, again.

(100,043 posts)If he resigns it will be better than full out impeachment. They lowered the bar with Clinton's impeachment, and they would further lower the bar with a Trump impeachment. It would be a full out media circus. I say just let him continue to shoot his mouth off on Twitter and build extremely expensive hotels in foreign countries. It will further make the GOP look like a billionaire's club.

(19,240 posts)and one term at best. What they really want is for terrorists to target Trump. Then Pence becomes LBJ. Trump was an idiot to run. If he was gonna run, he should have selected a Spiro Agnew the way Nixon did.

(61 posts)I think he only ran for President as just one more thing on his "Cheeto Hitler" bucket list.
I think he would have happily gone home the day after Hillary won the election- but America is so f'ed up, they elected his dumb ass.

To say nothing of the sort of SC justices he might nominate.

(975 posts)Trump is an existential threat to the republic. Pence merely has bad policy ideas. Trump wants to be the American version of Putin. Pence is just very conservative. The Republic can survive a President Pence. If Pence is president then we can elect Elizabeth Warren in 4 years and get the country back on track. But the constitutional republic that has endured for 228 years may not survive President Trump.

(58,724 posts)Trump is a buffoon with no core values. His only goal is to enrich himself, his brand, and his ego. Pence would actively and aggressively pursue policies that are antithetical to everything progressives stand for. Trump's primary concern is that CNN run more flattering pictures of him.

(7,358 posts)Perhaps even the House, but I have my doubts. Also we have to get our Dem Congressmen/women to go after Trumps nominations with the vigor of a Doberman-Pinscher. Starting with Jeff Sessions. They should be thinking 'filibuster', obstruct, anything to save the U.S. This is throw down time. America under Trump is not America.

(11,175 posts)Republicans will have to defend only one seat in a state Clinton carried (Nevada).
Democratic incumbents are up for re-election in Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Florida -- all Trump wins, some very close but some lopsided.
The President's party tends to lose seats in the midterms, but this isn't invariable. The Republicans gained seats in both the House and the Senate in 2002, for example.
Even if we make slight gains in the House, it's hard to see how the Democrats will even prevent losses in the Senate, let alone pick up the three seats (net) needed for a majority.

(99,708 posts)There is no more of chance of the GOP removing Trump as their leader as there was a chance of the National Socialists removing Hitler as their leader.
