There are a lot of slots available to be a host. As it is now, only a handful of us are helping out.
Here is what you need to be a host:
Have posted more than 2,000 times
Have 200 or more days of membership
Have posted more than 20 times in the last 90 days
Have had zero hidden posts in the last 90 days

One more thing... DON'T sign up if you won't do anything to help. A few people sign up and then don't do anything. That's annoying.

(112,128 posts)but since EarlG told me I wasn't a good fit and removed me as a forum host because I stepped up to defend another forum host who was being attacked, I'm no longer eligible.

(51,308 posts)I remember hosting with you a while back. I thought you did a good job.
Sorry to hear that happened.

(112,128 posts)Apparently I was too partisan even though there were other hosts that were far more partisan than me. Some of those hosts are no longer DU members, but are active on a competing site.

Karma.

Oops!

(28,184 posts)Commenting on a deliberate attempt to jury suppress someone's valid post was an apparent TOS violation.

(38,311 posts)Alas, guns are one of my hot-buttons. (I've told some of my gun stories here on DU, but not the ones where people died.)
I've also got some issues with Bernie Sanders.
Both have got me disqualified from hosting.
I'll never be impartial about guns. Sometimes I don't have the good sense to step away from these arguments.
This also may be the reason I've never served on a real world jury. I've been called many times, but I always get dismissed, sometimes by the prosecution, sometimes by the defense. Heh, maybe that means I truly am an impartial person.
But anyone who spends a significant amount of time here should consider both hosting and MIRT.

(80,708 posts)there's still too much bullshit about for me to want to get into that right now. Same with MIRT. Too much residual primary drama, too many people obsessed with their little message board grudges, too much obvious and open sockpuppetry and the like.
Not to mention that some of the big forum SOP rules have been wildly disregarded in the case of some particular areas lately, and no one seems to give a shit or even have half an inclination to acknowledge that they're flouting a specific line in the SOP.
Yeah, I know, that's what hosts are for. I get it. Just not up to it, personally.
Not trying to gripe, but just... no. Maybe in 6 months or so, after some of the leftover bullshit and drama from last year has wandered back to whence it came.
