Trump claims his briefing on Russian cyberattacks was delayed, but US intelligence officer says otherwise

by Mark Abadi at Business Insider

http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-mocks-intelligence-officials-russian-cyberattack-2017-1

"SNIP.............

"The 'Intelligence' briefing on so-called 'Russian hacking' was delayed until Friday, perhaps more time needed to build a case. Very strange!" Trump said on Twitter.

However, a senior US intelligence official immediately refuted Trump’s claim, saying the briefing with the heads of the NSA, CIA, DNI and the FBI was "always" scheduled for Friday, NBC News reported.

Last week, Trump said he agreed to meet with intelligence officials about Russia's involvement in the hacks, although he added it was "time to move on."

He also claimed he would reveal insider information about the cyberattacks on Tuesday or Wednesday, although a member of Trump's team told CNN Trump would not be following through.

He scammed his Trump University "students".

He is racist and demands that all non-white workers in his hotels and restaurants stay out of sight whenever he is visiting.

He doesn't pay people who do work for him.

He has all his Trump products made by sweatshop labor overseas instead of by US workers.

He bribed Florida attorney general Pam Bondi into dropping Florida's Trump University suit.

He jokes about assaulting women.

He has been photographed with his teenage daughter in sexually suggestive poses. He even called her a "piece of ass" on national radio.

He ran his modeling agency with a man who drugged and bullied underage models to have sex with their middle aged friends.

The list goes on and on. There is nothing at all admirable about Donald Trump.

I'm not sure which scenario I would find more disturbing, that the CIA had such information but decided not to reveal it to president Obama and saved it for leverage against the next president, or that the CIA had such information, informed president Obama of it, and the president decided to keep it quiet.

Russian mobsters, they also see him go deeply in debt to Russian banks. They know that debt can be used as leverage against him. That makes him a security risk.

Did Trump have his rooms in Moscow swept for listening and video devices? Did he commit sexual acts that might be seen as illegal or embarrassing? Did he cut deals with Russians that might be detrimental to US interests, and the Russians have the proof?

American people just so that they can use it as leverage against a sitting elected official? Frankly, I find that an extremely disturbing prospect, and it would leave me with absolutely no confidence that the CIA would "protect us" from Trump. In fact, I think this might make our problems worse.

If that official has shown split loyalties, and has access to top secret Intel, the CIA or other Intel agencies would be derelict in its duty if they didn't try to neutralize the threat.

In this case, leverage could be better than frog marching him out of the Oval Office. We don't need an armed uprising.

Trump has no self control, and his hostile relationship with the truth makes him dangerous.

His attempts at destroying the CIA's reputation plays right into Putin's hands.

BTW, Clinton never showed hostility to the CIA.

Let me ask this in another way...

In general, are you okay with government agencies keeping information secret, even from their own bosses, so they can coerce politicians into doing certain things?

Do you think it's okay if they're trying to get a politician to "do the right thing" and do you feel like their idea of "the right thing" is the same as your idea of "the right thing"?

I don't think they collect intel for the sole purpose of coercion. Trump is an exceptional case, and Trump is an exceptional risk.

Doing the right thing, in this case is not to compromise our security. That is about the extent of my support for the use of persuasion.

To get access to classified material, you have to undergo a rigorous investigation into all aspects of your life. You won't get clearance if they find you untrustworthy. Trump is untrustworthy.

Thu Jan 5, 2017, 10:09 AM

Over to the justice department if they believe something illegal has been done. They can turn this information over to the administration, if they believe that national security is at risk. Hell, they can turn this information over to the IRS if they believe there are tax issues in question. Coercing trump in secret and doing nothing are not their only two options.

Personally, I think this would set a frightening precedent where government agencies use government resources to coerce politicians and advance their own agendas, and I absolutely don't trust them, on their own, to do what's right.

If I understand correctly, though, you have answered my question, which is that you are okay with it in this instance, because it's trump.
