Robert Reich: Heres why no Democrat should come within 1,000 feet of Trumps inauguration

Robert Reich: Here’s why no Democrat should come within 1,000 feet of Trump’s inauguration
Brad Reed
Raw Story

“The issue here is how former presidents and other politicians should respond to someone who has shown himself to be a dangerous demagogue,” Reich writes. “Donald Trump became president by lying, demeaning women, denigrating racial and ethnic minorities, denying intelligence reports of foreign intervention in our election, excusing violence against opponents, and undermining the freedom and independence of the press.”

Given that Trump has shown no contrition, and has instead “continued to tell big lies, retaliate against critics, call opponents “enemies,” avoid press conferences, and dismiss conflicts of financial interest.”

In sum, Reich believes that attending Trump’s inauguration “gives tacit support and approval to someone who poses a clear and present danger to our democracy.”

Others, however, should join one of the many peaceful protests being held on that date.

Political figures are celebrities in their own right, and where they choose to be on a day like January 20 sends a powerful signal to people in general.

It is simply a fact.

the fight should be with the fascist party, AKA, republicans. Until then we need to keep sniffles in the neutral corner. There is a HUGE chance we can play sniffles against his own party. The Dems can play sniffles like a cheap piano if they play their cards right. Remember, the real president Pence is waiting in the wings to really do some damage.

It would not surprise me if he says something really tacky about Hillary being there. I know she and Bill are swallowing their pride and attending for the good of the country, but Trump sees only winning and losing. He likes to drag his opponents through the mud. I have visions of him and Pence at the podium starting the chant of "Lock Her Up" or saying something about how her attendance is in some way submission to him.

Sound crazy? Well, I'm sorry. But we have a CRAZY man who is going to be inaugurated and there is no way to predict what he will or won't do. That's what crazy is.

In fact, we are reaping the benefits of their terrible policies now. I actually think that the presence of Bill and Hillary is going to irk DT anyway. Everyone in DC hates him. They'll prove to be insanely more popular than he is. The contrast will be marked. Anyway, Reich's hatred of Hillary during the primaries was so glaring that I take anything he says in relation to her with a grain of salt.

why can understand that Hillary might want to go to try to preserve some decorum, iit is still a bad idea. let's face it,, Trump knows he will need to go ahead and bring some pyrotechnics and some scandal if nothing else to hide the fact that he literally cannot throw money at major performers. Now that he will been inaugurated, does anyone think you will not go ahead and resort to something cheap like "lock her up!" Even if he says he was only kidding he knows damn well that others will act on that, and if Hillary goes ahead and smiles she will in effect be shown as submitting to Donald. If Mr. Clinton wants to show up for some sense of something, let him, after all she is a two-term president who did not need electoral college tricks to win. Let him show up there and remind people what a president is supposed to be. However,, if Henry shows Donald will all the sudden conduct this with less dignity than a striptease bar. You also know that the media will love every second of that, from the overfed goons at Fox News that will not hide their pleasure,, to Chucky Todd and Chris Matthews at MSNBC, who do such a bad job pretending they are not enjoying this that they might as well shout "I hate Hillary" with the microphone!

In short, I do agree that no Democrat should get close to this atrocity, because Trump will use the fact that they showed up as a sign of submission, a sign that he could get even the people who fought in the hardest to kowtow. We do not need to give the impression of the submissive party, to be perfectly honest we've already done far too much of that already. I do not want to bother there, sso that Donald Trump can smile as fools in the crowd shout out "where is your birth certificate?" Oh you know yyou know they will, and Donald won't even pretend not to smile.

Donald needs to be reminded by the Democrats that he was voted for by the minority of people and that he is not entitled to one bit of deference considering that his party set the standard or trying to hobble an incoming president.. This is nothing less than cold civil war, which if the GOP is not stopped could easily become something far worse and already is something Russians are taking advantage of.. Sometimes, the most patriotic thing is not to show those were wrap themselves in the flag any respect, because they are desecrating that flag with abuse.
