The ebullient reaction among high-ranking Russian officials including some who U.S. officials believe had knowledge of the countrys cyber campaign to interfere in the U.S. election contributed to the U.S. intelligence communitys assessment that Moscows efforts were aimed at least in part at helping Trump win the White House.
Other key pieces of information gathered by U.S. spy agencies include the identification of actors involved in delivering stolen Democratic emails to the WikiLeaks website, and disparities in the levels of effort Russian intelligence entities devoted to penetrating and exploiting sensitive information stored on Democratic and Republican campaign networks.

I don't think this will be the usual presidential briefing. More like an intervention.
Wouldn't it be sweet if they were to water board him in order to get the truth out of him?

(70,023 posts)the expression is a ww2 thing. the reason japanese americans were interred is because they were thought to be advancing japan's cause here.
they were a "5th column" of the japanese army, even tho they mostly werent. they were just suspected because of their race.
it basically has come to mean support for the enemy from within the country being attacked.

(26,315 posts)I never knew...
Emilio Mola, a Nationalist general during the Spanish Civil War, told a journalist in 1936 that as his four columns of troops approached Madrid, a "fifth column" (Spanish: Quinta columna) of supporters inside the city would support him and undermine the Republican government from within.[1]:126127 The term was then widely used in Spain. Ernest Hemingway used it as the title of his only play, which he wrote in Madrid while the city was being bombarded, and published in 1938 in his book The Fifth Column and the First Forty-Nine Stories.[2]
Some writers, mindful of the origin of the phrase, use it only in reference to military operations rather than the broader and less well defined range of activities that sympathizers might engage in to support an anticipated attack.[a]

And, what the Russians stole from their party's servers WILL be used against them and Dear Leader at some point, much to their detriment, and to the detriment of this country. The only thing they care about is that their "team" won. Even their Dear Leader thinks this is all nothing but a big sporting event. He's "a big fan" of the intelligence agencies. Jeezus. They have no fucking clue. Any of them.

(1,306 posts)Make the Trump - McConnell - Comey - Russia connection as pervasive to the oncoming administration as Beghazi and emails were to Hillary's campaign and Kenya was to Obama's administration.
Each and every time Trump's or McConnell's or Comey's name comes up we need to link it to Putin and Russia election interference, all the while inferring that Russia had a hand in changing the outcome of the election.

there will be plenty of easily intercepted celebrating in DC.
That WaPo story is non-news . .
And notice that the media almost never cover the
CONTENTS of the Podesta or DNC emails, which mostly show
politicians just being political.
We're supposed to think its a big deal when Donna B. gives

The whole email hack story was pretty much fake news, a
distraction from campaign issues.
