"repeal and replace" is an admission that obamacare was a big improvement
lost in the discussion of when and what republicans will eventually do is the effective admission of their position right now, that obamacare successfully improved the healthcare landscape for America.
if obamacare had actually been a bad idea, certainly if it had been anything like the disaster republicans keep insisting it is, then they would be talking about "repeal" and that's it. just go back to the way it was before obamacare. but they're not doing that, because life with obamacare is better than life without obamacare and they know it.
moreover, the lack of any ready alternative to "replace" obamacare is shows the absolute bankruptcy of their opposition to obamacare. simply put, right now, obamacare is the best idea they have. they have no better ideas. there's nothing out there that think tanks have been developing or pushing or lobbying for or anything. they got nothing. they have no idea of anything better than obamacare.
eventually, they'll come up with an "alternative" that stinks of political posturing. they'll trot out something that treats the wallets of fatcats better and claim victory and the right-wing and the media will eat it up and ignore the millions of people who suffer as a result.
but for now, let's make sure we make it clear that their position right now is that (a) obamacare was a big improvement and (b) they've got no better ideas.
