Its never all that hard to find examples of politicians in either party being hypocrites, accusing their opponents of things they themselves are guilty of or flipping 180 degrees on supposedly heartfelt positions when it looks to be to their momentary advantage. But the Republicans now taking power in Washington are bringing hypocrisy to spectacular new heights.
Heres a striking report today from Kelsey Snell and David Weigel:
In a dramatic reversal, many members of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus said Thursday they are prepared later this month to support a budget measure that would explode the deficit and increase the public debt to more than $29.1 trillion by 2026, figures contained in the budget resolution itself.
But wait isnt it unconscionable to saddle our grandchildren with debt? Dont these members of the Freedom Caucus believe with every fiber of their beings that deficits are evil and government must be made to live according to its means?

(63,203 posts)Republicans vastly increase government spending every chance they get, and they blame it on Democrats every time.
And it's always done for the two-fold purpose of enriching their cronies while giving future leverage to defund social programs.

(82,383 posts)None of their pronouncements are sincere. They don't think it is unconscionable to saddle our grandchildren with debt. They just say that when convenient, when they think they will win.
Likewise, they don't really think the POTUS needs to live a pure and sober sex life. They only said that to hurt Bill Clinton. Now we see they don't really care about adultery in Presidents.
Nothing they say is said with any purpose other than to advance their current agenda.
