We have to take off our shoes & no liquids, but GUNS AND AMMO in checked baggage w/little security..

... in baggage claim??? WTF??
If you've ever arrived in Ft Lauderdale you know what I mean ... almost completely non-secure.

So, if some crazed person wants to shoot up an airport, isn't checking baggage with guns and ammo a HUGE security risk??

6. How is it a risk?

They must be in a locked bag, and unlabeled. So unless somebody goes to baggage claim with bolt cutters and starts ripping open every bag, I dont see the risk.

You can go to baggage claim to meet someone at every airport I've ever seen.

You won't, and you have to clear customs to get out

13. Oh that's right, I wasn't even thinking about getting to international baggage claim.

I was thinking of all the times I've either picked up someone or flown into an airport and had someone meet me at baggage claim. They were all domestic origin flights.

Air Canada says they don't have him on one of their flights. And passengers from Canada would go through customs in Canada.

It looks like he flew Delta from Alaska via MSP anyway.

8. Not in comparison to carrying into the terminal.

If I wanted to shoot people in Chicago, for example, I could check my guns, fly to Chicago, claim my bag, retrieve my guns, and shoot people. Seems like a lot of trouble when I can simply walk into the terminal with a gun and start shooting.

9. Baggage claim areas are not secure areas

anyone can walk into one with a gun. Guns in luggage would be the least of my concerns if I was worried about getting shot at an airport.

16. Not really, the baggage claim area is not secured and anyone can bring a loaded gun into it

No one is checked on their way into the baggage claim area from ground transportation areas.

18. In most airports, anyone could walk on in off the street and shoot up baggage claim

I don't know why this guy felt compelled to take his murderous show on the road, but really banning transport of guns on flights would have zero impact on the security at baggage claim.
