(779 posts)I saw it here and have reposted it as well. Thank you for reposting. It is the best guidebook I have seen for opposing Trump. Imagine if evere DUer started or joined one of these in their congressional district! Imagine if we had one in every district!
I have been thinking about starting one of these in my district. I am not really the "leader" type and am not social media savvy, so it would be outside my comfort zone, but someone has to do it.
I would appreciate any advice on how. "Meetup" or some other platform? My district is red but my county went unexpectedly blue in 2016.

(779 posts)Copy/paste a couple of points from an early version below. Not sure if this is in the current version.
If your MoC is in a heavily Democratic or Republican district, you may assume that they have a safe seat and theres nothing you can do to influence them. This is not true! The reality is that no MoC ever considers themselves to be safe from all threats. MoCs who have nothing to fear from a general election still worry about primary challenges.
More broadly, no one stays an MoC without being borderline compulsive about protecting their image. Even the safest MoC will be deeply alarmed by signs of organized opposition, because these actions create the impression that theyre not connected to their district and not listening to their constituents.
Congratulations! Your Senators and Representative are doing what they should to fight racism, authoritarianism, and corruption. Theyre making the right public statements, co-sponsoring the right bills, and voting the right way. So how does this change your strategy? Two key things to keep in mind:
Do NOT switch to targeting other Members of Congress who dont represent you. They dont represent you, and they dont care what you have to say. Stick with your own local MoCs.
DO use this guide to engage with your MoCs locally. Instead of pressuring them to do the right thing, praise them for doing the right thing. This is important because it will help ensure that they continue to do the right thing. Congressional staff are rarely contacted when the MoC does something good - your efforts locally will provide highly valuable positive reinforcement.

(212 posts)I have been printing copies and passing them around where I work. I'm not a leader or media smart at all. I can write emails and make phone calls. I read there is a list coming of groups that have formed. There are more of us. It is time to take back our country.
