We must look totally like a horrible nation with this disgusting POS coming on board

1/20 as our president. FFS, what a horror show. I hate to think what it's going to look like a few months from now let alone several years. If it were just Trump, that would be one thing, but this cast of characters he's lined up in his regime ...
I feel like a doomsday machine has been set in motion.

typed it in a post. Just always call him the Con. I intend to continue disrespecting him that way until he resigns, gets impeached, croaks, or some other manner gets out of our WH!

Sad to say there are some deep cracks in our system of checks and balances.

were actually coming up to us on the BC ferries, asking how in the world did he get re-elected. I didn't have a good answer then, and could only say that we hadn't voted for the idiot but that a lot of Americans were jerks. I have no fucking idea what I would say now -- there is no excuse I guess I have to think about it, because we're headed to Canada pretty soon. Not permanently, unfortunately. I'm Canadian as well as American, but we have kids and grandkids here to help protect.

I don't like using this broad a brush for an entire nation, but you've known since Reagan that this was a possibility. And as far as I can tell you did nothing serious to keep it from occurring.

You look politically lazy, and are reaping the rewards of your long-term self-congratulatory complacency. Maybe this is what it takes to wake you up, just like it has taken massive cultural disasters to wake up other societies (think of the French Revolution, your own Civil War, WWI, WWII etc.) My hope is that you will wake up as a result, and indulge in some adult self-criticism for a change.

I'm sorry that sounds harsh, but that's the way it looks from up here in Canada.

I'm afraid of what to expect in our next federal election. I can only hope our angry conservatives don't do to us what the American ones just did to the US.

Also, our system makes it harder an outside demagogue like Trump to barge in - they have to make it through the party system and be elected leader there before they can take their case to the public as a potential PM. It's not a sure-fire barrier to demagogues, but it makes it harder for them to advance, and gives us more advance warning.

We may even have an advantage in being only 1/10 the size of the US, and having more than two parties. Tyrannical moves are easier to see, and easier to counter - as happened with Little Stevie in the last election.

We also don't have the same degree of "institutional reverence" that Americans seem to have, especially regarding their Constitution and presidency.

how hateful and irresponsible to pass as free speech out to the masses, and that also includes some religious sects that are filled with hatred.

And then throw in racism and bigotry. And also, a failure of the educational system. In essence, IMO, many Americans today are adult children.

I know this sounds harsh too, but I live here and put up with this mindless crap and BS everyday. It's incredible. And what is even more incredible, many are proud of their lack of education and stupidity.

How anyone like Trump can become president is IMO a complete failure of the American system. Worst, I'm beginning to feel it will take a complete collapse to give a kick in the ass to wake Americans up. And you know what really gripes me! Many Americans think they are superior to the rest of the world.

I used to travel a lot internationally, I also used to spend a lot of time in Canada, a beautiful country. I'm so glad I don't do that any more, I would be horribly embarrassed. I am literally frightened of what's coming to America.

individual like Trump will become president, and then the creeps that he has ushered into his regime. I'm a strong individual, but I am scared, scared because in the big picture Americans lack control to stop this, because the system is failing in so many directions. The checks and balances have failed and the cancer of corruptness, racism and bigotry is far spread, as are greed and repression.
