Please read. This isn't trivia. It's about something that matters. A lot.

How about we all use an inverted American flag avatar?

This is a third repeat of this post, and why it's important.

For those who don't know, an upside down American flag is not a sign of disrespect. It is a signal of distress.

I recently had a discussion with DUer DLevine about using the inverted flag avatar as a statement. There are almost a quarter of a million registered DUers. Wouldn't it be great if, on Inauguration Day, this site showed all inverted flag avatars?

Many here did so during the Cheney/Bush years and right now our country is hovering on the edge of a cliff. We control none of the levers of power, so making a strong statement is the bare minimum that we can do.

I've changed mine from my Eiffel Tower avatar. How about joining DLevine, me, and so many others here on DU by using this symbol of distress, and showing our resistance to the impending threats to our freedoms.

Maybe, just maybe, someone in the (so called) mainstream media will catch it and write about it, or broadcast it. And maybe, just maybe, we could end up on the shit list of the Orange Creature. That would be a badge of honor that we could all wear proudly.

C'mon. How about jumping in?

(I'm really gonna miss my Eiffel Tower, but hopefully, I'll be able to change it back sometime in the not-to-distant future.)

Click on My Profile.

Scroll down and look for something that says Avatar edit.

Once you click on that, many avatar choices will show up. An inverted American flag is there. Click on it.

After Inauguration Day, just follow the same procedure to get your current avatar back.

22. I really do like my Tofurky; but this is a good idea for many reasons.

I really think it will do us collectively, as a community on DU and in the larger picture as a voting bloc, to practice a bit of unity. We MUST if we are to survive; both as progressives and Democrats, and also literally, to save our lives.

The upside down flag does express our current situation clearly.

There seems to be a pox on using that, and it would take a strong reappropriation effort to change the signaling that the ones who fly them support the Libertarian / Tea Party ideaologies.

Maybe I'm living in a fantasy. But why not give "a strong re-appropriation effort" a try? There are almost a quarter of a million of us registered here on DU. Yeah, I know that's not a lot in the big scheme of things. But why not give it a try?

Grass roots resistance has to start somewhere. Why not here? Why not us? Why not now? Why not reclaim the flag under which most of us grew up? What's to lose?

Imagine the badge of pride we could all wear for the rest of our lives by being added to Trump's "Enemies List."

44. With the Gadsden, I was hoping that the LGBTQ groups would take over the original Gadsden flag.

The false macho of Teabaggers would quickly distance their use of that flag.

I would love to see it fly at LGBTQ marches and events. The few they flew were rainbow or had other colors.
