From the NYT at: http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/07/us/russia-hacking-election-trump-voters.html
This article describes the response that many Trump supporters have in regard to the U.S. intelligence release on Thursday. Pretty incredible what they think.
COVINGTON, La. Sour grapes, explained Bob Marino, 79, weighing in on the recent spycraft bombshell from the corner table of a local McDonalds.
Sour grapes, agreed Roger Noel, 65, sitting next to him.
Bunch of crybabies, Reed Guidry, 64, offered from across the table.
From the parts of the report Ive seen, said Rob Maness, a retired Air Force colonel who twice ran for Senate here as Tea Party favorite, it seems silly.
I dont believe it, Mr. Yates, 78, said flatly of the intelligence report. He was standing in the yard under his Make America Great Again flag, which he bought at a gun show several months ago. Why would Putin even want Trump?
But Mr. Yates then added: Why is everybody so afraid of Russia? Im not against Putin.
In Louisiana, David Gubert, 56, chain-smoked Eagle 20 cigarettes in the cab of his pickup, with stacks of firewood for sale behind him in the bed. Like the Willises, he ruminated on what it would mean if the Russians had gotten involved, and possibly even swung the election.
But Mr. Gubert came to a different conclusion.
If thats what it took, he said, Im glad they did it.
This last response is the most insane, but I'm pretty sure it's common among Trump supporters. It's ok if you feel completely sickened by the article. I know I am.

I wonder if we have that kind of statesman today?

(16,071 posts)...we know who some of the Quislings, are!
And we know that they are loyal to Trump and not to the United States, including that retired USAF Colonel.
On the plus side, once their Medicare and Social Security are adjusted as part of Ryan's wet dream...Marino, Noel, Guidry, Yates, and the chain smoking Gubert, will be leaving this mortal coil, much sooner!!!

(17,984 posts)as someone else pointed out, their age. These people lived through the cold war. Some lived through the McCarthy hearings. Russia was their sworn enemy for decades. Now, all of a sudden, they are our big buddies. I could maybe understand someone who has just reached voting age feeling this way (even though CRIMEA!), but Russian influence should resonate with the older generations.

That's all they know, and all they want to know.

(7,596 posts)I especially love the shithead who's glad a foreign government basically chose our president for us. What a great American.
There's no hope for these people. They'll be ignorant and selfish until the day they die so we shouldn't waste time and resources trying to win their vote. Fuck them.

(22,976 posts)They want the U.S., Northern Europe and Russia to form a White Christian alliance to fight the brown Muslim hordes who they think are taking over the planet. Hell, they want to fight a crusade.
Why else does Drumph & Co. get all the love from the KKK and US-UK fascist groups? If anyone can stomach it, I urge them to take a look at any white nationalist website to really see what America's up against. It is unreal.

(13,180 posts)Our job is to beat them. There's no talking them out of their position. They are so angry that there is essentially no degree of self-sullying they won't engage in. Our voters didn't do their job in 2016. A bunch of us stayed home and let these simpletons have the voting booths.

(100,060 posts)These people interviewed are all over 60, they won't be sticking around for the next couple of election cycles. Younger voters tend to vote more liberally so we should be encouraging them to GOTV.

(100,060 posts)And if I had my way, all laws restricting voting would be abolished. I think that's a huge part of the problem - too many restrictions on voting to make people think it's not worth it. And that's 150% a GOP created problem.
Ligyron
(7,624 posts)Even when they did vote. 40% just didn't even bother - most probably feeling it would make no difference. Never did before when they bothered.
That's my best guess anyway since I've never seen any studies, statistics concerning the demographics of this absent 40%.

(16,858 posts)Posted a rant saying that the whole thing was a conspiracy hatched by Google in conjunction with the DNC and that all of this "hacking" business was a big lie to cast Trump in a bad light. You can't fix these people. They are "true believers" and will never believe anything other than the RW/RT spin. We could have video evidence of Trump sucking off Putin for votes and these fuckers would ignore it and scream "fake news". Sadly, I think many of us could have predicted this response when the "fake news" was a focus after the election. The GOP has no shame in twisting reality to fit their mission.
