Can the media stop confusing news with access

You don't need to be in a presidential press conference to be a journalist.

You don't need to have the president or a congress critter on your station to investigate a story.

You don't have to be afraid of losing access if your story is researched and sourced.

I'm ranting a bit, but reporting the news doesn't mean you have to be in their pocket. I would think that being removed from a POTUS presser would make you a more credible news agency.

Parroting back press releases makes you a propaganda outlet, not a journalist.

Stop being afraid of doing your jobs. Or get out of the way for those who will.
