If Comey investigation is allowed to continue..?

We will probably discover that he worked with the Republican Party and the Trump campaign to attack Hillary Clinton from several fronts?

We are likely to discover that he went out of his way to accomodate Jason Chaffetz and Trey Gowdy and to keep their investigations going? He was a willing partisan in the attempt to destroy the Clinton campaign.

Also, he was manipulated by requests from Rudy Guiliani and his partisan allies within the FBI. He was extremely weak in opposing these outside influences, especially the demands from the Chaffetz and Gowdy House Committee.

Republicans wil probably be better served if Comey is forced to resign and the heat is called off on the guilty Republicans?

The Inspector General Act authorizes the Attorney General to interfere with an IG investigation under certain exceptional circumstances, one of which relates to intelligence matters, which arguably could apply here. But the Attorney General would have to find that action is “necessary to prevent the significant impairment to the national interests of the United States” (and there are congressional notification requirements as well). I can’t think of any precedent for taking this step, and politically it would be hugely controversial, and therefore unlikely.

It may be harder that we think for Trump to block this investigation
