Democrats are not obligated to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Because he has shown no respect, he deserves no respect.

But what about tradition and a smooth transition of power?

He has done nothing to show that he is interested in tradition or rules or the transition of power. With him, rules are made to be broken. And he has broken them all.

He refused to show his income tax returns. He refused to pay any taxes to our government at all. Why should Democrats respect that?

He has been rude and crude to everyone that opposed him in his run for the White House. He didn't have to be but that is just the way he is. Why should Democrats reward such behavior?

But normalizing and rewarding such a person is not the right thing to do. It is the wrong thing to do. He should not be rewarded - he should be punished.

I could understand if every Democrat skipped his little inauguration event.

I recall that they held a strategy session the same time as the inauguration where they discussed how to delegitimize him, oppose his every move and make him a one term president.

of an individual who has exhibited nothing but contempt for the Constitution, the rule of law, and sound, responsible governance.

Trump attacked anyone in the GOP field critical of him. There was Bush, Cruz, Fiorina et al. Why would you post such a falsehood?
