I reconciled with my neighbor over DRUMPF today

So we've been neighbors going on 25 yrs, are both vets (Navy me, Air Force him) of the one-enlistment category (not "Lifers&quot , both retired from our civilian jobs. Despite our difference in academics, we're both blue collar. Anyway, he's been totally non-political all these years, says he never voted. So in this horrendous campaign, DRUMPF sparked him (sound familiar?).

I never pressed him hard to try to convert him, just made a very few disparaging remarks about DRUMPF, which unfortunately appeared to deepen his DRUMPF-love. Towards the Election he became more aggressive about it, finally saying he *was* going to vote this time and for DRUMPF.

So in the shock of the outcome, we abruptly had no encounters. I was in shock, and since DRUMPF didn't expect to win, so was my neighbor, first for a few days, but then he never came outside, like thinking I was going to scream or attack him? And this non-engagement went on for these two months and a week.

So today this other neighbor said she had a couple of dogs to give away because of moving-day and I remembered the DRUMPF dude had wanted a dog for his daughter time back, so I called him and he came over with his daughter.

So while the ladies went wild recognizing each other, I said to him, "You picked a fine time to leave me, Lucille," to which he responded with the rest of the lyrics. I said, "No, with (DRUMPF) in the field."

Anyway, he said that he had just been pulling my chain all along, that he didn't vote at all, that he told his wife he didn't like either of the candidates.

So when they were leaving, I said to the daughter, "Your father likes to mess with my mind, and I hadn't talked to him for two months because he told me he was voting for (DRUMPF)." Everybody laughed. Still, was he lying *then* or is he lying *now*?!1

As the disaster unfolds, I bet a lot of people who did vote for Trump will deny it, too ashamed to admit it. Your neighbor may have been sincere and really did not vote or maybe he is embarrassed that he did.

When my friend saw me the day after the election, and saw how angry I was, she said she didn't vote. She forgot that I was at her house months earlier and saw her absentee ballot where she voted for him.

all over again. Remember them? Bush supporters were everywhere back in early to mid 2000's. You were considered a traitor by the majority if you stood up to him (see: Dixie Chicks).

When it finally became apparent to the majority that Bush was a horrible president (sometime around Hurricane Katrina) his support vanished like a fart in the wind. It will be the same with Gump supporters. He is utterly worthless.

Your neighbor is most likely ashamed that he voted for this human punchline and now won't admit it.

Do you feel animosity toward your neighbor today? Would you prefer to hold a grudge and have no communication with him indefinitely? Hard feelings or move on?

You don't have to agree with him politically but can still have a civil existence, if you choose. Sounds like you got along before this election campaign kicked off.

Your conscience, your decision.

I just implore you, if some DUers show up in this thread encouraging you to torch his house because he's a DRUMPF supporter, please don't take it that far!

hanging over my friend's household. Her husband's mother is a fox/Limbaugh fan and they were sure she had voted for dRump. They found out last week that in the end she did not vote for anyone for president. This couple has been over the moon ever since! Seriously - I have never seen them so united on anything - being happy!

My mechanic took me to task over the glory of trump before the election. He said how he supported him, how great he would be at fixing the country, etc. Long story short. Last week I needed some warranty work on previous services done. When we were wrapping up the meeting at pickup time, he said not to forget to recommend him to my friends, I sort of snort laughed. He said he wanted me to know he didn't vote in the presidential election. I grimly smiled and said, "of course you didn't."

His claim may be true despite my doubts, I don't know, but I do now know more about them than I care to now. I also own a service based business locally. Mine is more involved with local home sales, and as such new people in our community, and I'd previously sent them tens of dozens of new clients. They're never getting another referral from me, neither are they getting any new work from me again.

Takeaway lesson, no matter how insulated you imagine you are, don't mix business with politics fools.

includes but is not limited to: the condition of our vehicles and yard machines, the health and economic and relationship status of ourselves and our various relatives, where we have been if we haven't seen each over for a week, approval and disapproval of what some of our neighbors do or don't do, the progress of nearby real estate sales, the various home improvement projects we have going and whether or not we need each other's help, the weather, our health and how our providers are behaving, our food preferences, and many other topics.

So you're correct that politics is none of each other's business, the same as all the aforesaid things that we inexplicably discuss between us. I just don't know why we talk about such things.
