It is an interesting perspective to have, and possibly one that has implications when you take on the most powerful job in the world. I was at a networking event yesterday and got a weird sense of how distant finance people are from reality. Aka white privilege. We were talking about background checks and how they generally only apply to "unsuccessful" people, which in NYC is anyone in the 99%. If you have a proven record of success, and non violent crimes on your record, you can generally get that 6-7 figure Wall Street job. Some firm will take you on, not every firm, not the top salary, but you won't starve. You might not be able get a job in the mail room, or working security in the lobby, because they care about background checks, but you can get an office job. As was said in a recent movie title about Howard Hughes, "Rules Don't Apply".

If you win through gerrymandering, electoral college-only victories, etc., your positions are instantly unpopular. People have already said they don't want them.
