Donald Trump may have just destroyed the Republican effort to repeal Obamacare

Last edited Mon Jan 16, 2017, 11:51 AM - Edit history (1)

When even the most committed Republicans came around to support Donald Trump in 2016, they made a kind of bet. It wouldn’t matter much that Trump had no apparent fealty to conservative ideology or that he was a complete ignoramus about policy, because he’d be leaving all that boring stuff to them. The Republican Congress would pass its agenda, he’d sign whatever they put in front of him, and they’d all live happily ever after.

But now it’s not looking so simple. In fact, Trump just dealt a huge blow to their top priority: repealing the Affordable Care Act. Accomplishing repeal without causing the GOP a political calamity is an extremely delicate enterprise, and the last thing they want is to have him popping off at the mouth and promising things they can’t deliver. Which is what he just did

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump said. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.” People covered under the law “can expect to have great health care. It will be in a much simplified form. Much less expensive and much better.” …

“It’s not going to be their plan,” he said of people covered under the current law. “It’ll be another plan. But they’ll be beautifully covered. I don’t want single-payer. What I do want is to be able to take care of people,” he said Saturday.

This is a non-starter for Republicans. The following years would be humorous if not for the fact that the plight of millions hangs in the balance between these two idiotic branches of our government.

5. Trump Talking Out of His Ass
Mon Jan 16, 2017, 11:00 AM
Jan 2017

The comments from the Washington Post seem to be Donald Trump talking out of his ass. He wants everyone to be covered, but he does not want single-payer. Everyone is going to be covered and they are going to have great plans and great healthcare, but it will cost less and be more simple. How is it going to cost less to give everyone health insurance, especially if you are going to cover people who cannot afford to pay for their health insurance? Even now the ACA does not cover all Americans. I do not think forcing drug companies to negotiate their prices with government agencies will decrease health costs enough to make it cheaper to cover every American who does not have health insurance. Trump's comments just make him seems stupid.

So what Trump said everyone will have beautiful health care at lower cost than the current ACA?

Really. So what?

So the Republicans repeal the ACA and give us personal Health Care Accounts we have no extra income to fund and Health Care Vouchers for discounts on health care we still can't pay for?

So what if that happens and it doesn't square with what Trump said.

SO WHAT?

People watching FOX News will still blame all their problems on Obama, Hillary, Schumer, Democrats.

What Trump says means absolutely nothing. Because at this point it's obvious everything he says is a lie. He can contradict himself ten times a day in obvious fashion and it doesn't matter.

but “We’re going to have insurance for everybody,”

Medicare is popular. Maybe instead of single payer, they can pass Medicare for all.

Since the PPACA has proven to be way better than that failed Obamacare.

Just because Trump says something doesn't mean he's going to do it. There's no reason in the world to think that he would veto anything the Republican congress passes just because he once suggested he would. Nothing he says has a shelf life of longer than a day or two.

because he’d be leaving all that boring stuff to them. The Republican Congress would pass its agenda, he’d sign whatever they put in front of him, and they’d all live happily ever after.

But now it’s not looking so simple. In fact, Trump just dealt a huge blow to their top priority: repealing the Affordable Care Act. then why isn't every other industrialized country in the whole world rushing to implement a healthcare system like ours? If our healthcare system is so god-damned wonderful, then why aren't countries around the world rushing to double the cost of medication to match the costs in the US system?

Those are rhetorical questions.

that is driving the Pubs over the edge is this: Also, Trump said, he will call for the government to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies directly, forcing them to lower their prices. They’re politically protected but not anymore,” Trump said of the drug industry.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-obamacare-replacement_us_587cc478e4b0b3c7a7b205de

The claims he made about "his new plan" are 100% the opposite of what the Pubs have been pushing /for 8 years and they will HATE him for it. It's also such pie in the sky it can't be done ass he described. Then, on top of all that, he promises to negotiate with the pharmaceutical houses. I can't wait to hear what his Pub congress has to say, IF they can still speak!

it doesn't mean the R Congress will rubber stamp his policies. They are not beholden to him. They are beholden to all the big money interests that keep them in office for decades. They will not risk taking a hit to their campaign coffers by going along with Trump. They will use all of their political smoke and mirrors to not do anything that is in opposition to their "I've got mine, fuck the rest of you" philosophy.
